The Open Bakery is a local family business. The family have been baking in Brighton since 1997. We are a truly authentic bakery, honouring traditions and customs from bakeries across Europe. We prepare everything fresh on the day for our two shops, we also run baking classes throughout the week and weekend.
This position is full time - 5 days a week.
Shifts will either be at our Kemptown shop or assisting alongside teachers on our Classes. More details of classes can be found here https://openbakery.co.uk/classes
The class assisting requires setting up the ingredients and equipment, be the host on arrival for customers, prepare lunch, help distribute ingredients etc. Then clearing away and washing up throughout the session and closing down the kitchen with the chef. Working along side and helping the General Manager with the operational side classes.
We tend to have 1-2 classes a week. Classes tend to run Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Sunday paid at a higher rate. There are occasional evening classes that finish around 9pm.
The Supervisor/Barista part of the job would be predominantly in our Kemptown Shop, with potential cover at our Queen’s Park Site. Shifts are normally 8 hours long, and can start as early as 6am. The closing shift is normally finished by 6.30pm. This is very much a customer facing role, and helping the Manager with the daily operations of the shop.
Pay is £14.30 per hour, with an inflated rate of pay on Sundays and Good Friday
Normal shop shifts are 8 hours long over 5 days. Weekend availability is essential to assist on classes.
