We have an opportunity for a Senior Cost Manager to join our Bristol cost management team. You will become part collaborative, ambitious and well-established team, delivering projects across Bristol, the south west and, where appropriate, our wider national business.
The role offers the opportunity to lead on a broad mix of projects, contribute to client development and support the growth of our people. You will manage commissions from inception to completion, working closely with clients, design teams and contractors to provide clear, commercially robust cost advice.
Our work includes projects typically ranging from £1m to over £600m across sectors such as commercial, resident build-to-rent, later living, education, health, defence, manufacturing and public sector development.
What you need to do to be effective in this role

Lead all aspects of cost management from inception to completion, taking responsibility for quality, accuracy commercial outcomes.

Manage large-scale and/or multiple projects for key clients, balancing programme, cost, risk and stakeholder requirements.

Produce feasibility studies, order of cost estimates, detailed cost plans and benchmarking advice.

Evaluate building designs and alternative proposals to help clients maintain budget control.

Advise clients on procurement strategy, contract arrangements, tendering routes and market engagement.

Prepare and issue tender documents, manage tender processes, review returns and prepare clear tender repo and recommendations.

Provide robust post-contract cost control, including valuations, payment recommendations, change control, c reporting and final account negotiation.

Advise on contractual matters and procedures, with particular emphasis on JCT and NEC forms where relevant.

Attend client, design team and progress meetings, providing concise financial reporting and clear commercial advice.

Support business planning, repeat business, client development and the conversion of new opportunities.

Maintain the highest standards of professional competence, quality assurance and ethical practice.

Cost planning at various RIBA stages, including preliminary estimates, elemental cost plans and detailed design stage cost advice.

Preparation of procurement reports and advice on single-stage, two-stage, negotiated and framework routes,

Monitor design change, measuring and valuing variations and advising on budget impact.

Prepare clear cost reports, risk registers, cashflow updates and change control summaries for clients.

Negotiate and agree final accounts with contractors and supply chain partners.
The skills and experience you need to have for this role

A relevant degree in quantity surveying, cost management or a similar RICS-accredited discipline.

MRICS preferred. Candidates working towards chartership with strong experience may also be considered.

Proven experience as a Quantity Surveyor, Cost Manager or Senior Cost Manager, with evidence of leading pro or workstreams.

Sound knowledge of JCT contracts. Knowledge of NEC contracts would be advantageous.

Experience of technically complex projects and the ability to interrogate design information, contractor pricing commercial risk.

Competency using Microsoft Word and Excel. Experience with CostX, Bluebeam, Smartsheet or similar.
