Job Title: School Cleaner
Location: Lake House School

Reports to: Headteacher
Purpose of the Role:
To maintain a clean, safe, and hygienic environment for pupils, staff, and visitors across the school site. The post holder will be responsible for cleaning designated areas to a high standard, following health and safety guidelines and the school’s safeguarding protocols.
Key Responsibilities:
- Clean classrooms, offices, corridors, toilets, and communal areas according to the school’s cleaning schedule.
- Dust, sweep, mop, vacuum, and polish surfaces and floors as required.
- Empty bins and dispose of rubbish in accordance with waste management procedures.
- Refill supplies such as soap, paper towels, and toilet paper as necessary.
- Report any maintenance or health and safety issues to the School Caretaker.
- Lock or unlock designated areas as directed (if working out-of-hours).
- Ensure cleaning equipment and materials are used safely and stored securely after use.
- Follow infection control procedures, especially in high-use or high-risk areas.
- Maintain confidentiality and adhere to safeguarding procedures at all times.
Person Specification:
Essential:
- Experience in a similar cleaning or facilities role (school or public building desirable).
- Ability to work independently and use initiative.
- Awareness of health and safety and COSHH regulations.
- Reliable, punctual, and trustworthy.
- Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
Desirable:
- Understanding of the school environment.
- Knowledge of safe cleaning practices in settings with vulnerable individuals.
Additional Information:
- This post is subject to an enhanced DBS check and satisfactory references.
- Training will be provided in safeguarding, health and safety, and cleaning procedures.
- The role requires a degree of physical fitness, including bending, lifting, and moving equipment.
- Working hours will be Monday to Friday 10am-2pm
