We are looking for an experienced Underwriting Controls Manager to join our Underwriting team at Polo Managing Agency.
This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in the onboarding of new syndicate clients and the ongoing development, delivery and oversight of our underwriting governance framework. Working closely with senior underwriting leadership, syndicate management teams and Lloyd's stakeholders, you will help ensure robust controls, effective oversight and compliance with Lloyd's Principles for Doing Business.

To report to the Head of Underwriting Oversight & Onboarding and assist in all matters relating to the delivery of the managing agency underwriting framework and onboarding of new syndicates into the framework.
- To work with new entrant Syndicates, New business Director and Client Managers to agree and implement an underwriting governance framework, ensure Principle 1 Making it Happen actions completed, and manage and update the Underwriting onboarding Playbook.
- To assist in the maintenance of the policies and procedures which make up the Underwriting Framework.
- To maintain syndicate Letters of Authority on at least an annual basis and throughout the year as required.
- Working closely with the Syndicate Underwriting Manager and the Head of Underwriting Operations to manage exception reporting and corrective actions, as well as Sanctions checks and PBQA outputs.
- To conduct underwriting file reviews and manage the outputs working with syndicate teams as appropriate.
- To contribute to the implementation, follow up and completion of the outcomes of Peer Review and Independent Expert Review of managed syndicates, working with syndicate teams as appropriate.
- To update Underwriting Committee and Syndicate Management Committee reports with Underwriting Controls specific.
- To lead on the completion of regulatory returns to Lloyd's where input is required from the Underwriting team..
- To ensure syndicates are Meeting Expectations for Principle 1 and co-ordinate completion of the annual self-attestation. Where syndicates are not Meeting Expectations, to provide ongoing guidance to syndicates to reach expected levels.
- To assist the Syndicate Underwriting Manager in the review of the managed syndicate business plans for the prospective year of account.
- To assist the Head of Underwriting Management and Onboarding to ensure the timely completion of actions arising from internal and external audits of the Underwriting function.
- To maintain record keeping and action logs of syndicate related activities to support and evidence oversight.
- To maintain compliance with Lloyd’s Principle for Doing Business and any applicable UK or International statutory regulatory obligations as required by the role.

Experience in the Lloyd’s market, preferably in an Underwriting function role.
- Sound knowledge of Underwriting Frameworks and associated policy documentation.
- Sound knowledge of Underwriting systems and underwriting management information.
- Understanding of Lloyd’s Principles for Doing Business.
- Sound understanding of underwriting, delegated underwriting and Lloyd’s operations.
- Ability to adapt to changing priorities and manage multiple deadlines.
- Good level of IT skills including Excel and Powerpoint.
- Highly numerate with strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills and strong interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively and establish strong relationships.
