Overview
We are seeking a dynamic and skilled Pool Plant Engineer to oversee the operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of swimming pool facilities. Duties
- Monitor and maintain water chemistry in pools and spas (chlorine levels, pH balance, alkalinity, etc.).
- Carry out water sampling, testing, and adjust chemical dosing systems to ensure compliance with health and safety standards (e.g., PWTAG, HSE guidelines).
- Ensure that pools and spa facilities are always safe for public use.
- Respond quickly to breakdowns and maintenance requests to minimize downtime of leisure facilities.
- Implement and adhere to a preventive maintenance schedule to ensure plant reliability and extend equipment life.
- Compliance and Safety
- Ensure all plant operations are compliant with: Health and Safety regulations (such as HSG282, COSHH), Environmental Health standards, Local authority licensing requirements.
- Complete regular risk assessments and keep safety documentation updated.
- Diagnose faults with mechanical, electrical, and control systems related to pool operations, HVAC, and spa installations.
- Repair or coordinate repairs for pumps, boilers, heat exchangers, UV systems, and control panels.
- Maintain accurate service logs for equipment and water quality testing records.
- Document completed maintenance tasks, inspections, repairs, and chemical treatments for auditing purposes.
- Monitor plant performance to optimize energy usage (e.g., pool heating systems, ventilation).
- Suggest and implement improvements to reduce operational costs and environmental footprint.
- Work alongside external contractors for major repairs, plant upgrades, or specialist servicing.
- Work closely with facility managers, lifeguard teams, and operations staff to ensure smooth day-to-day operations.
Experience
- Minimum 2–3 years' experience in pool plant operations, water treatment, leisure facilities maintenance, building services engineering or a closely related role.
- Proven experience maintaining and testing commercial swimming pools, spas and associated plant equipment.
- Practical experience monitoring and maintaining pool water chemistry, including chlorine, pH, alkalinity and chemical dosing systems.
- Experience fault-finding and maintaining pumps, filters, boilers, heat exchangers, UV systems, control panels and associated mechanical/electrical equipment.
- Experience carrying out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and responding to reactive maintenance and equipment breakdowns.
- Good understanding of PWTAG guidance, HSG282, COSHH, Health & Safety requirements and environmental standards relevant to swimming pools and spa facilities.
- Experience completing water quality records, maintenance logs, risk assessments and compliance documentation.
- Ability to diagnose faults across mechanical, electrical and control systems, with the ability to coordinate specialist contractors where required.
- Experience working alongside facility managers, lifeguards, contractors and other operational teams.
- Experience identifying opportunities to improve plant reliability, energy efficiency and operational costs.
- A relevant PWTAG Pool Plant Operator qualification or equivalent is highly desirable.
- Relevant NVQ/City & Guilds qualification in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Building Services or a related discipline would be advantageous.
Pay: £30,000.00-£40,000.00 per year
