The Role
We are recruiting on behalf of an established and growing business within the temporary access and site solutions sector for an experienced HGV Class 1 Wagon & Drag / HIAB Driver to join their operations team.
This is more than a standard driving role. You will be responsible for transporting specialist access equipment to sites across the UK, operating a lorry-mounted crane and working as part of a small installation and recovery crew.
The role involves regular travel throughout the UK, including remote locations and nights away in your own vehicle. A night-out allowance is provided.
Key Responsibilities
- Driving Class 1 Wagon & Drag vehicles throughout the UK
- Transporting specialist access equipment safely and efficiently
- Operating HIAB or similar lorry-mounted cranes to load, move and offload equipment
- Completing vehicle and crane pre-use checks
- Carrying out basic operator maintenance and reporting defects
- Securing loads correctly using ratchet straps and appropriate lifting equipment
- Following lifting plans, safe working loads and site instructions
- Completing pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections
- Maintaining accurate paperwork including delivery notes, timesheets and digital records
- Following all UK road traffic legislation and company procedures
- Communicating with the operations team regarding schedules and delays
- Supporting installation and recovery operations on site
- Using hand tools and assisting other members of the crew where required
- Following all Health & Safety procedures and site rules
Requirements
- Current HGV Class 1 licence - essential
- Previous commercial HGV driving experience, ideally at least one year
- Comfortable driving Wagon & Drag vehicles
- HIAB experience and ALLMI card preferred, although training can be provided
- CSCS card
- Strong knowledge of UK road networks
- Comfortable working away from home Monday to Friday
- Willing to travel throughout the UK
- Able to work outdoors in varying weather conditions
- Flexible regarding days, nights and occasional weekend work
- Good communication and teamwork skills
- Reliable with strong timekeeping
- Comfortable using ratchet straps and securing loads safely
- Construction, utilities or Transmission & Distribution experience would be advantageous
Relevant pre-employment checks will also be required.

This role would suit an experienced Class 1 driver who is looking for something more varied than standard trunking or delivery work and is comfortable combining driving, HIAB operation and practical site work.
