Job description
We're working with a specialist provision in the Plymouth area that is looking for a dedicated and compassionate SEMH Teaching Assistant to join their team. This rewarding role involves supporting children and young people with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, with many pupils also having Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC) and additional Special Educational Needs.
Many of the pupils have experienced challenges within mainstream education and may display behaviours linked to anxiety, emotional regulation, or school avoidance. As a Teaching Assistant, you'll play a vital role in building positive relationships, creating a safe and nurturing learning environment, and helping pupils develop the confidence and skills they need to thrive both academically and emotionally.
Previous experience supporting children with SEN, SEMH or autism is highly desirable, but schools are also keen to hear from patient, resilient and enthusiastic individuals who are passionate about making a difference.

The ideal Teaching Assistant will:
- Have experience supporting children or young people with SEN, SEMH, autism or additional needs (school, care or community settings)
- Be confident supporting pupils on a 1:1 basis and within small groups
- Demonstrate patience, resilience and a calm, positive approach
- Be able to build trusting relationships with pupils and support positive behaviour strategies
- Communicate effectively with teaching staff, parents and external professionals
- Be flexible, proactive and able to work collaboratively as part of a team
- Be available to work 8:30am – 4:00pm
