ABOUT TAILOR FH LTD
Tailor FH Ltd supports a private family office with a diverse portfolio of 16 companies across the UK, Jersey and UAE. The portfolio includes trading, holding, investment and property activities, creating a varied and commercially engaging finance environment.
The family office is based in East London. Its finance function must combine first-class technical delivery with discretion, responsiveness and a clear understanding of the needs of an owner-managed group.
ROLE PURPOSE
The Finance Manager will take hands-on ownership of the quality, timeliness and integrity of day-to-day finance operations and management reporting across the portfolio. The role requires strong diligence, exceptional attention to detail and the confidence to investigate inconsistencies rather than accept unsupported assumptions.
This is both a delivery and leadership role. The postholder will produce, review and present meaningful management reports; maintain excellent bookkeeping standards; strengthen financial controls and audit trails; coordinate compliance and year-end activity; and teach, coach and develop the finance team so that good practice is understood and consistently applied.
The resources are UK and Philippines based and therefore, pro-active management with excellent communication skills is critical to ensure effective performance of the financial operations.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Management reporting and financial insight
- Own the monthly management accounts cycle for each of the 16 companies and the consolidated family office reporting pack, ensuring outputs are timely, materially complete and accurate.
- Prepare and review profit and loss accounts, balance sheets, cash movements, balance sheet reconciliations, intercompany and loan schedules, aged debtor information, variance analysis and concise commentary.
- Ensure consolidation adjustments and intercompany eliminations are complete, balanced and supported by clear working papers.
- Present management reports clearly to senior stakeholders, explaining performance, cash implications, emerging risks, unusual transactions and recommended actions.
- Lead the annual budgeting process and maintain rolling forecasts, cash-flow projections and scenario analysis to support informed decision-making.
Bookkeeping, month-end close and data quality
- Set and uphold a high standard of hands-on bookkeeping across all ledgers, stepping in to prepare or correct entries where required.
- Review transaction coding, bank reconciliations, control accounts, accruals, prepayments, fixed assets, payroll journals, debtors, creditors and VAT postings for accuracy and completeness.
- Run a disciplined, repeatable month-end close with clear cut-off rules, responsibilities, review points, information requests, issue logs and escalation routes.
- Identify and correct historical or recurring data-quality issues while preserving original records and maintaining a transparent record of corrections, approvals and supporting evidence.
- Use professional scepticism and strong diligence to challenge unsupported balances, incomplete documentation and unusual or inconsistent transactions.
Tax, statutory and licence compliance
- Maintain a rolling compliance and year-end calendar covering tax filings and payments, statutory accounts, annual returns or confirmation statements, registrations, licences and other recurring obligations.
- Coordinate the preparation, review, approval and timely submission of tax and regulatory information, working with external advisers where specialist input is required.
- Ensure tax payments are accurate, properly authorised, made by the relevant deadline and reconciled to the liability and accounting records, with complete evidence retained.
- Maintain an accurate central register of tax and licence registrations, renewals, amendments and deregistrations, with clear owners, deadlines, status and evidence links.
- Escalate dependencies, risks, exceptions and potential late-filing or late-payment issues early, with practical remediation actions.
Payments, cash and financial control
- Oversee payment runs and supporting documentation, ensuring segregation of duties, appropriate approval and independent verification of payee details, amounts, currency and payment references.
- Monitor liquidity and cash requirements across the portfolio, ensuring decision-makers have timely visibility of funding needs and material cash movements.
- Maintain and improve proportionate financial controls that protect assets, reduce the risk of error or fraud and provide a clear evidence trail for every material transaction.
- Process Payroll on a monthly basis.
Intra-group, Inter-Company and Intra-Company recharges and audit trail
- Own the integrity of recharge data, including the review and remediation of historical items and the operation of a robust recurring process.
- Ensure every recharge is supported by source documentation, a documented allocation basis, correct invoicing or credit documentation, appropriate tax and VAT treatment, consistent foreign-exchange treatment and matching ledger entries.
- Reconcile recharge and intercompany balances between counterparties, resolve differences promptly and retain clear batch references, approvals, version control and evidence from source to ledger.
Year-end, audit and external advisers
- Lead the preparation of year-end working papers, statutory accounts support and disclosures, ensuring files are well organised, fully reconciled and ready for external review.
- Act as the principal finance contact for auditors, accountants, tax advisers, banks and other professional advisers, tracking requests and ensuring responses are accurate and timely.
- Translate technical advice into practical actions, documented decisions and sustainable internal processes.
Team leadership, teaching and development
- Lead, support and develop members of the finance team, setting clear priorities, deadlines, quality standards and accountability.
- Teach and coach the team in strong bookkeeping, reconciliations, month-end close, management reporting, controls and documentation through patient, practical and hands-on guidance.
- Review work constructively, explain the reasoning behind corrections and provide timely feedback that builds confidence, judgement and technical capability.
- Create and maintain clear procedures, checklists, templates and training materials so that knowledge is embedded and work can be performed consistently.
- Foster a collaborative, service-minded culture in which questions are encouraged, issues are surfaced early and continuous improvement is part of normal working practice.
