Job Description
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Senior Fire Protection Design Engineer to join the growing in-house design team.
Working from our Central London office, you will play a key role in the design and coordination of active fire protection systems across a portfolio of high-profile residential, hotel, commercial, and mixed-use developments. Our projects primarily involve the refurbishment and conversion of existing office buildings into high-quality hotels and residential apartments, offering a varied and technically challenging workload.
We are looking for someone with strong experience in sprinkler systems, smoke ventilation systems, or both. Candidates with specialist expertise in one discipline who are keen to broaden their knowledge across fire protection design are encouraged to apply.
This is a permanent, full-time office-based position located in Piccadilly Circus, London.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and coordinate active fire protection systems, including sprinkler and smoke ventilation systems
- Produce technical drawings, layouts, calculations, specifications, and design documentation
- Coordinate designs with architectural, structural, MEP, and fire engineering teams
- Ensure designs comply with UK Building Regulations, Approved Document B, BS EN 12845, BS 9251, BS EN 12101, BS 9991, BS 9999, and other relevant standards
- Participate in design coordination meetings and provide technical support throughout the project lifecycle
- Liaise with consultants, contractors, manufacturers, Building Control, and approval authorities
- Review technical submissions, resolve design queries, and support site teams during construction
- Assist in developing practical and cost-effective fire protection solutions for complex refurbishment and conversion projects
- Maintain high-quality design standards and contribute to the continuous development of the in-house design function
Requirements
- Proven experience designing sprinkler systems, smoke ventilation systems, or other active fire protection systems
- Experience working on residential, hotel, commercial, healthcare, or mixed-use developments
- Strong understanding of UK fire safety legislation, Building Regulations, and relevant British Standards
- Experience producing technical drawings and design calculations
- Proficiency in AutoCAD (Revit experience is highly desirable)
- Good understanding of BIM coordination and multidisciplinary design
- Excellent communication and organisational skills
- Ability to manage multiple projects and work within programme deadlines
- Degree, HNC/HND, or equivalent qualification in Mechanical Engineering, Building Services Engineering, Fire Protection Engineering, or a related discipline is desirable
- Industry accreditations such as LPCB or IFSM are advantageous but not essential
