We are looking for an experienced, adaptable and highly motivated person to work in the SNAP Visualisation Lab at the Royal College of Art.
The SNAP Visualisation Lab is a multimodal environment that allows for large scale visuals, virtual environments and immersive experiences to support staff to engage with research and external partners.
Within the lab there is -
A 65m2 double-height space with three sided projection.
5x 4K22 Barco projectors.
A spatial tracking array to support VR and immersive interactions.
Stereo and spatial audio options.
A range of software that supports multimedia playback and immersive experiences.
Working as the dedicated technical specialist in this Research & Knowledge Exchange focused space, this role will provide specialist support for large scale multimedia projection, immersive environments and audio delivery. There will be training and development opportunities on the software and equipment for the most suitable candidate.
About the Role:
As the SNAP Visualisation Lab Manager - Specialist Technical Instructor you will be:
Working closely with staff, students and external partners to support project development within and for the SNAP Lab.
Setting up and running tests and experiments on behalf of staff or commercial clients.
Managing events and bookings within the Lab.
Designing workflows, user guides and safety protocols for the new laboratory.
Training staff and external partners on new equipment and processes.
Ordering consumables and planning maintenance of equipment.
Engaging with peer-to-peer learning alongside other technical specialists and academic staff.
Problem solving and playing an active part in the lab’s development.
Supporting the Labs progression by engaging in both personal and technological development.
About You :
We're looking for someone who combines strong software and hardware experience with excellent communication and a collaborative approach.
You’ll bring:
Significant knowledge and experience of managing multi-user spaces, including equipment management, software updates, booking systems and user configuration.
Experience of delivering large scale visualisation and immersive environment projects within at least one games development platform (such as Unreal or Unity)
Experience with at least one additional program of the labs software suite: TouchDesigner, Notch, Pixera, Vertex, Vioso.
Experience working with large scale visualisation and projection.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, both written and verbal
Excellent organisational, time management and planning skills with the ability to prioritise as appropriate
