About the Project
Samson Homes Ltd is seeking a highly experienced and professionally accredited Structural Engineer to provide construction-stage engineering oversight for a new residential development at 79 Glebe Road, Finchley.
The project comprises the demolition of the existing building and construction of a multi-unit residential development incorporating lower-ground accommodation, reinforced concrete retaining structures, structural steelwork, masonry superstructure, roof construction, utility infrastructure and associated external works.
The appointed Structural Engineer will act as the lead structural consultant during the construction phase, undertaking inspections, reviewing contractor methodologies and certifying structural works at key stages of construction.
Professional Requirements (Essential)
Applicants must hold one of the following:
- Chartered Structural Engineer (MIStructE)
- Chartered Civil Engineer (MICE) with substantial structural experience
- Registered with the Engineering Council UK
- Minimum 10 years UK construction experience
- Proven experience delivering multi-unit residential developments
- Professional Indemnity Insurance suitable for residential construction projects
- Ability to issue structural inspection reports and certification
Applications from graduate engineers, technicians or non-chartered engineers will not be considered.
Key ResponsibilitiesPre-Construction Phase
- Review approved structural drawings and calculations.
- Review demolition methodology and temporary works proposals.
- Review ground investigation information.
- Advise on foundation and retaining wall construction sequencing.
- Attend pre-start meetings with the client and contractor.
Construction Phase
- Inspect excavation and formation levels prior to foundation works.
- Verify compliance with structural drawings and calculations.
- Inspect reinforcement installation before concrete pours.
- Review retaining wall construction and waterproofing interfaces.
- Inspect structural steel installation and connections.
- Review masonry load-bearing elements.
- Inspect floor and roof structural construction.
- Provide technical guidance to contractors and subcontractors.
- Review and approve structural design modifications where required.
- Attend scheduled site inspections throughout the build programme.
Quality Assurance & Compliance
- Ensure works comply with:
- Eurocodes
- Building Regulations
- British Standards
- Approved structural calculations
- Construction drawings
- Prepare site inspection reports.
- Issue structural sign-off certificates where appropriate.
- Coordinate with Building Control and warranty providers.
- Respond to technical queries and contractor RFIs.
Required Site Attendance
The engineer will be expected to attend site at key construction stages, including:
- Demolition commencement
- Foundation excavations
- Reinforcement inspections
- Foundation pours
- Retaining wall construction
- Ground floor structure
- Structural steel installation
- Upper floor construction
- Roof structure completion
- Final structural inspection
Approximately 8–12 site inspections are anticipated throughout the project duration.
Experience Required

Remuneration
Competitive consultancy fee or day-rate package, commensurate with experience and accreditation.
