Learning Support Assistant – Catering
Full-Time | Permanent | September Start
We are currently seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Learning Support Assistant (LSA) to join an Alternative Provision from September on a full-time, permanent basis.
This role will have a particular focus on supporting students during Catering and Food Technology lessons, helping them develop practical skills, confidence and independence in a supportive learning environment.
The Role
As a Catering-focused LSA, you will work closely with the class teacher to support students during practical lessons. You will help learners engage with their learning, follow instructions safely and develop valuable cooking and life skills.
You will:
- Provide one-to-one and small-group support during Catering and Food Technology lessons.
- Support students with food preparation, cooking and practical activities.
- Help students understand and follow instructions and practical demonstrations.
- Promote safe working practices, including appropriate food hygiene and kitchen safety.
- Encourage students to develop independence and confidence in practical tasks.
- Adapt your support to meet individual SEN and additional learning needs.
- Support positive behaviour and engagement within the classroom.
- Build positive and trusting relationships with students.
- Work closely with the Catering Teacher and wider support team.
- Help students develop transferable skills such as communication, teamwork, organisation and responsibility.
About You
The successful candidate will be patient, practical and approachable, with a genuine interest in supporting young people.
You will ideally have:
- Experience working with young people in an educational, care, youth work or support setting.
- An interest in Catering, Food Technology, Cooking or Hospitality.
- Experience supporting students with SEN / additional needs is desirable.
- A calm, patient and encouraging approach.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- The ability to build positive relationships with young people.
- A willingness to get involved in practical activities and support students with hands-on learning.
- A strong awareness of health and safety, particularly within a practical kitchen environment.
