Sustainability Analyst
ROLE: Sustainability Analyst
HOURS: 40 hours a week
LOCATION: Birmingham
At Mitie, our people are our greatest strength, and our promise is to create a place to work where you can thrive and be your best every day. We're looking for a Sustainability Analyst who will support both Mitie's and our customers' transitions to Net Zero. This is a hands-on data and analysis role at the heart of how a major waste and environmental services business meets its carbon, circular economy and regulatory obligations.
Working within our waste management and environmental services business, the analyst will help us deliver against live regulatory workstreams including UK ETS expansion to waste, Digital Waste Tracking, the Deposit Return Scheme, packaging Extended Producer Responsibility and Simpler Recycling. The role works alongside experienced waste managers, our group Plan Zero sustainability team, and customers, sometimes on customer sites and at supplier facilities.
The analyst will also maintain carbon data in our waste management software system, contribute to our GRI 306 and ISSB-aligned disclosures, undertake research into decarbonisation and circularity initiatives, and develop technical and marketing content to support our objectives. The role is agile, with a mix of home working and travel to Mitie offices, customer sites and supplier sites as required.
- Build, validate and maintain customer carbon data, including Scope 3 emissions calculations across waste streams.
- Work with experienced waste managers to translate operational data into environmental insight and improvement actions.
- Collaborate with the Group Plan Zero team to align waste sector data with Mitie's wider Net Zero and SBTi commitments.
- Lead or support detailed research projects on emerging legislation, technology and circular economy initiatives.
- Investigate new technologies, treatment routes and circular solutions, and assess their relevance to our customers.
- Develop technical papers, briefing notes and customer-facing content that translates regulation into practical action.
- A degree in environmental science, waste, sustainability, geography, engineering, data science or a related numerate or science-based subject.
- Confident with data: comfortable working with spreadsheets, large datasets and basic statistical analysis.
- Nice to have: any exposure to GHG accounting, GRI, TCFD/ISSB, SBTi or carbon reporting frameworks (academic or work-based).
- Some waste industry experience would be advantageous, but you will learn the regulatory and operational side from us.
- Access to our flexible lifestyle benefits platform, Choices, including the option to purchase extra holiday, insurance, dental treatment and technology products.
- High street discounts through MiDeals, plus access to gyms and more.
- Our market-leading offering provides you with benefits that suit your lifestyle.
