Job Overview
The Buyer keeps materials, plant and services moving into the business in a controlled way. The role is practical, detailed and fast-paced: site teams need support quickly, but the orders still need to be accurate, coded correctly and commercially sensible. The role holder links site requirements with the supply chain and helps protect project cost, delivery dates and productivity.
Responsibilities
- Raise purchase orders accurately, ensuring the correct supplier, project, cost codes and delivery details are recorded.
- Source materials, plant and services, obtaining and comparing quotations to achieve best value and programme requirements.
- Maintain accurate procurement records, including orders, quotations, delivery notes and supplier documentation.
- Coordinate deliveries, collections and plant off-hires, keeping site teams informed and resolving supply issues.
- Build and maintain positive relationships with suppliers and project teams to support efficient project delivery.
- Ensure all purchasing activities comply with company procedures, approval processes and audit requirements.
- Support procurement compliance by maintaining accurate records and following anti-bribery, supplier due diligence and data protection requirements.
Essentials
- CIPS Level 3 or above (or equivalent), or qualified by experience.
- Full UK Driving Licence.
- GCSE Maths and English at Grade C/4 or above.
- Experience within buying
- Good organisation, attention to detail and ability to manage several requests at once.
- Clear telephone and email communication.
Desirables
- CIPS qualification or working knowledge of recognised procurement practice.
- Experience with construction procurement systems, purchase orders and cost coding.
- Good working knowledge of civils materials, plant hire, haulage, muck-away and long-lead items.
Pay: £32,000.00-£34,000.00 per year
