Medical Receptionist (Maternity Cover)
Location: Springburn Health Centre
Hours: Part-time – 18 hours per week
Contract: 1-year fixed-term maternity cover (with probationary period)
Salary: From £12.70 per hour (dependent on experience)

Our multidisciplinary team includes:
- 4 GP Partners
- 1 Salaried GP
- 2 Practice Nurses
- 12 Receptionists
- A range of additional healthcare professionals and administrative staff
We are looking for an enthusiastic and reliable Medical Receptionist to join our reception team on a one-year maternity cover contract.
About the Role
This is a varied and busy role, ideal for someone who enjoys working with people and thrives in a fast-paced environment. As one of the first points of contact for our patients, you'll play an important role in ensuring the smooth day-to-day running of the practice.
We're looking for someone who is friendly, organised, able to remain calm under pressure, and committed to delivering excellent patient service. Flexibility to provide occasional additional cover for sickness and annual leave would be advantageous.
Working Pattern
The contracted hours for this role are:
- Tuesday: 8:30am – 1:00pm
- Thursday: 2:00pm – 6:00pm
- Friday: 8:30am – 6:00pm
Total Contracted Hours: 18 hours per week
Main Duties
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Greeting patients and visitors
- Answering telephone enquiries and assisting patients
- Booking, cancelling and amending appointments
- Processing repeat prescription requests
- Managing GP appointment diaries
- Processing patient registrations and administrative correspondence
- Scanning and filing clinical documents
- Liaising with pharmacies, hospitals, community teams and other healthcare providers
- Ordering and monitoring clinical and office supplies
- Providing general administrative support to the clinical team
What We're Looking For
Essential:
- Excellent communication and customer service skills
- Strong IT skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook
- Good organisational skills and attention to detail
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
- A professional, compassionate and confidential approach
Desirable:
- Previous experience as a Medical Receptionist (minimum one year preferred)
- Experience using EMIS Web and Docman
Full training will be provided.
Practice Opening Hours
Monday to Friday: 8:30am – 6:00pm
(Practice closed daily between 1:00pm – 2:00pm for lunch.)
