Due to continued and sustained growth, an exciting opportunity has come up for a Commerial Gas Engineer to join our company, JH Mechanical and Electrical Services (JH-ME).

The Commercial Gas Engineer will support the Head of Repairs & Maintenance in delivering the gas related maintenance and repairs contracts held at JH Mechanical and Electrical Services Limited.
The role will suit a Commercial Gas Engineer who has significant, technical experience in undertaking gas/other mechanical maintenance, repairs and installations in schools, universities, MoD sites, factories, and public sector buildings.
The role requires the ability to lead on jobs, to independently plan and deliver work assigned to the highest quality and within given timeframes, and in accordance with all statutory requirements, company policies and industry good practice.
The postholder is required to train less experienced operatives and apprentices to become competent Commercial Gas Engineers and would report the trainee’s progress to the line manager.
This role is on the ‘front line’ for the business and must therefore always represent the company positively and professionally. The role is expected to demonstrate initiative, exceptional time management skills and the ability to always meet tight deadlines. The job also entails liaising with clients onsite whilst undertaking work; therefore, excellent communication skills is essential for the role.
Working Hours: 40 hours per week (core hours are usually 8am-4.30pm but work outside of this timeframe may be required to meet client / work needs; therefore flexibility is required)
Call Out Rota additional payment: approx 1 in every 5/6 weeks, £200 standby per week plus call outs - circa £5k additional pay per annum) on top of £45k salary.

Key Responsibilities include:
- Reporting to the Head of Repairs & Maintenance
- Act as lead on jobs assigned, ensuring work is appropriately planned and delivered safely to the highest quality, within given timeframes, and in accordance with all statutory requirements, company policies and industry good practice.
- Be on the weekly call out rota for Commercial Gas Engineers
- Train less experienced operatives and apprentices to become competent Commercial Gas Engineers and report the trainee’s progress to the line manager weekly
- Represent the company positively and professionally at all times.
Key Tasks include:
- Adhere to all Health & Safety regulations and QHSE company policies at all times - never compromising the customer, other colleagues or yourself
- Wear the correct PPE for each activity
- Follow Safe Systems of Work, adhering to method statements and mitigating the risks appropriately as set out in the risk assessments
- Set out jobs and follow a programme of works (where relevant) using knowledge and experience of undertaking similar works, and working to drawings where relevant
- Follow client on-site procedures to gain access to the works to be undertaken
- Undertake a dynamic ‘Take 5’ risk assessment prior to commencing each job
- Perform planned preventative maintenance on gas fired plant and equipment and building services equipment within given target times with minimal supervision
- Complete the appropriate maintenance and gas safe paperwork, reporting anything that is at risk or dangerous to the office / line manager immediately
- Perform responsive diagnostic work where relevant with minimal supervision and report on any additional works to be undertaken to the office (including the provision of detailed accurate descriptions/photos/serial numbers for parts and materials, equipment and plant needed to undertake any follow up work)
- Support a customer focused culture, delivering right first time, taking ownership and accountability for the works undertaken
- Undertake repairs and installation works as instructed; including requisitioning the appropriate materials, plant and machinery from JH-ME stores or suppliers where relevant
- Use the CRM to complete and submit clear, accurate job cards and any associated certifications/paperwork for each job undertaken on each day and before leaving the attended site.
- Ensuring all client asset information is collected and recorded in the CRM.
- Ensure that all work carried out is delivered to the highest level of quality in all circumstances
- Perform a post audit job check when leaving site at end of day/work completed, ensuring the site is left clean, tidy and safe
- Minimise waste and adhere to company environmental policies for the safe disposal of hazardous waste
- Act in a professional manner at all times whilst on site, following all site procedures and adhering to all standards and codes of conducts as required.
- Be respectful and positively represent the company
- Keep up to date with changes in all relevant company policies and legislation, to ensure service delivery is maintained to a high standard, complying with the appropriate regulations
- Be on the weekly call out rota for Commercial Gas Engineers and attend call outs if required
- Undertake additional hours as may be reasonable and necessary for the effective and efficient performance of their duties and responsibilities
- Ensure all company assets in your possession are well cared for and maintained, and report any damage, accidents, loss, or other problems immediately to your line manager
- Be a responsible driver at all times
- Aid alternative trades in completing work task as required
- Ensure assigned trainee Commercial Gas Engineers are given appropriate training to be competent in commercial gas operations and report on their progress
- ·Undertake any training and development deemed necessary you the management team for you to fulfil your duties
- Any other duties deemed relevant for the role
Key Skills, Knowledge & Experience
ESSENTIAL
- At least 3 years’ experience in a similar role
- Commercial Gas (CORT1, CIGA1, ICPN1, TPCP1, TPCPIA)
- Commercial Gas COMCATS and Laundry
- Unvented water heaters
- Sound knowledge of Health & Safety and COSHH Legislation and M&E industry regulations
- Site Safety or CSCS Health and Safety Scheme or equivalent
- Renewable Technology qualifications
- Computer literate with skills in word, excel, email, internet etc and CRM skills
- Trustworthy and discreet
- Highly organised, with the ability to manage own jobs for the day and across numerous sites
- Able to work on own initiative.

Please note successful candidates will be subject to advanced DBS, Police and MOD vetting for our contracted works. You will also join the call out rota for which an additional payment will be made when completed.
