Role Summary
This role will work closely with a well-established client base in the Filey, Scarborough, Whitby and Hartlepool areas, encompassing working fishermen and their families as well as former fishermen and fishermen’s widows. As a Support Officer, you’ll have the opportunity to make a real difference by helping people navigate challenges, access support, and improve their wellbeing.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry a client case load
- Build connections with local organisations
- Outreach to Harbours
- Facilitate client events
- Support the delivery of a National Fishing Remembrance Day service in your area
- Support fundraising activities across the area
- Health and Safety responsibilities
Essential Skills and Experience
· Experience in supporting vulnerable individuals (whether through health, age, poverty or circumstance) to achieve positive outcomes both face to face and remotely.
· Experience of supporting individuals across at least 2 of the following areas:
- Assessing complex needs
- Completing grant applications on behalf of individuals
- Accessing public funds
- Making referrals
- Signposting to other organisations
- Mental Health Support
- Physical health support
· Excellent organisational and planning skills
· Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
· Ability to work independently, prioritising work and knowing when to seek support
· Experience in using CRM systems
· Excellent IT skills with good knowledge of Microsoft 365
· Ability to establish and maintain excellent relationships across a broad range of client, stakeholders and partner organisations
· Ability to work within the Christian Ethos of the Fishermen’s Mission
· Full UK driving licence andability to use own car for business travel (expenses reimbursed)
Desirable skills and experience
· Experience of working within a charity or not for profit organisation
· Practicing Christian
· Experience of speaking to a range of audiences about the work that you do, the benefits and impact
· Knowledge of the UK benefits system
· Experience of undertaking community fundraising
· Experience of completing risk assessments
· Mental Health First Aid Certification
· First Aid at Work Certification
· Understanding and experience of safeguarding procedures
· Knowledge of key issues impacting current and former fishermen and their families

Please note that it would be usual that during the first week of employment the successful candidate will be expected to travel to our Head Office in Whiteley, Hampshire as part of the induction process.
