About the role
We are looking for an organised, reliable and proactive Transport Planner to join our busy transport team at H Whittaker & Sons.
Working within our office, you will be responsible for planning the daily activities of our vehicle fleet, ensuring deliveries and collections are completed efficiently, safely and on time.
This is a fast-paced role where no two days are the same. You will need to be able to think on your feet, manage changing priorities and solve problems quickly to keep our operation running smoothly.
Key responsibilities
- Plan the daily activities and routes for our fleet of vehicles.
- Ensure all deliveries and collections are covered efficiently, taking into account geographical locations, bookings and time slots.
- Monitor the progress of vehicles throughout the day and ensure scheduled work is completed on time.
- Deal with customer requests, queries and complaints in a professional and helpful manner.
- Communicate effectively with drivers, customers, colleagues and other departments.
- Resolve unexpected issues throughout the working day, minimising any impact on our customers.
- Ensure vehicles and trailers return to the depot as required for scheduled safety checks and maintenance.
- Keep accurate records and ensure transport operations run efficiently and safely.
About you
We are looking for someone who is:
- Highly organised with excellent attention to detail.
- Able to work under pressure and manage changing priorities.
- A confident communicator who enjoys working with people.
- Problem-solving and proactive, with the ability to think quickly when issues arise.
- Comfortable working in a busy transport environment.
- Able to work independently while also being a strong team player.
- Confident using computers and transport/planning systems.
- Ideally experienced in transport planning, logistics or haulage, although full training may be provided for the right person.
