The Opportunity
We are recruiting for a Multi-Skilled Maintenance Engineer to join a busy and well-established manufacturing operation. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with a strong electrical and automation background who enjoys a hands-on, varied role within a fast-paced production environment.
Working as part of an experienced engineering team, you will play a key role in maintaining equipment performance, reducing downtime, and supporting continuous improvement across the site.
The Role
This position offers a diverse workload, covering both modern automated systems and more traditional equipment. You will be involved in both planned maintenance and reactive repairs, ensuring production runs smoothly and safely at all times.
Key Duties
Maintenance & Fault Finding
- Carry out planned preventative maintenance across machinery and site equipment
- Respond to breakdowns quickly, diagnosing faults and implementing repairs
- Perform both electrical and mechanical maintenance tasks
- Maintain plant performance to minimise downtime
Electrical & Automation
- Fault-find and repair electrical control systems, motors, drives, and panels
- Interpret technical drawings and schematics
- Work with automated systems, including basic PLC fault diagnosis and adjustments
- Assist with installation and improvement of automated equipment
Mechanical & General Support
- Support mechanical maintenance across a range of plant equipment
- Assist with repairs involving conveyors, pneumatic and hydraulic systems
- Provide additional support such as basic fabrication or welding (advantageous)
Production & Continuous Improvement
- Collaborate closely with production teams to resolve issues efficiently
- Contribute to improving equipment reliability and operational efficiency
- Identify recurring faults and suggest long-term solutions
Health & Safety
- Work in line with site health & safety procedures at all times
- Ensure safe isolation and compliance with current regulations
- Maintain a clean and organised working environment
What We’re Looking For
Essential:
- Proven experience (approx. 5+ years) in a maintenance engineering role within manufacturing or production
- Strong electrical fault-finding skills
- Relevant engineering qualification (NVQ Level 3, City & Guilds, apprenticeship or equivalent)
- 18th Edition (or equivalent electrical qualification)
- Experience with planned preventative maintenance (PPM) systems
- Ability to work independently and make sound decisions under pressure
- Good understanding of health & safety and safe working practices
Desirable:
- Experience working with PLCs or automated production systems
- Basic PLC programming or modification knowledge
- Knowledge of hydraulics and pneumatics
- Welding or fabrication skills
- Experience supporting improvement projects
