Butcher
Job Summary:
We are seeking a skilled and experienced Butcher to join our team. The ideal candidate will be passionate about meat quality, possess excellent knife skills, and be committed to providing exceptional customer service. As a Butcher, you will be responsible for preparing and cutting various types of meat, ensuring proper handling and storage, maintaining a clean and sanitary work environment, and assisting customers with their selections.
Responsibilities:
- Receive, inspect, and store meat deliveries in accordance with food safety standards.
- Break down carcasses and large cuts of meat into smaller, retail-ready portions (e.g., steaks, roasts, chops, ground meat).
- Utilise various butchering tools and equipment, including saws, slicers, grinders, and knives, safely and efficiently.
- Trim, bone, tie, and grind meats to specification.
- Prepare specialty cuts and custom orders as requested by customers.
- Ensure all meat products are fresh, visually appealing, and correctly priced and labeled.
- Maintain accurate inventory records of meat products.
- Adhere strictly to all food safety, hygiene, and sanitation regulations
- Keep the work area, tools, and equipment clean and sanitized throughout the day.
- Collaborate with other team members to ensure smooth operations and customer satisfaction.
- Participate in ongoing training and development to enhance butchering skills and knowledge.
Qualifications:
- Proven experience as a Butcher or in a similar meat preparation role.
- In-depth knowledge of various cuts of meat, their characteristics, and appropriate preparation methods.
- Exceptional knife skills and proficiency with butchering tools and equipment.
- Strong understanding of food safety and sanitation regulations (e.g., HACCP principles).
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
- Attention to detail and a commitment to quality.
- Ability to lift heavy objects and stand for extended periods.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, and stoop for extended periods.
- Manual dexterity and fine motor skills for precise cutting.
- Comfortable working in a refrigerated environment.
