Balfor Recruitment are looking for compassionate, motivated and experienced Mental Health Support Workers to join our team across Birmingham and the surrounding areas.
As a Mental Health Support Worker, you will play a vital role in supporting individuals with a range of mental health, learning disability and acquired brain injury needs. You’ll provide encouragement, stability and practical support while helping the people we support achieve their personal goals and maintain their independence.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Making a genuine difference to the lives of the people you support through compassionate, person-centred care.
- Building meaningful relationships based on trust, respect, dignity and understanding.
- Providing personalised support based on each individual’s needs, preferences, abilities and goals.
- Promoting independence by encouraging individuals to develop life skills, make their own choices and take control of their daily lives.
- Supporting with everyday activities, including personal care, meal preparation, household tasks, appointments and daily routines where required.
- Supporting mental and emotional wellbeing, providing reassurance, encouragement and a calm and consistent approach.
- Encouraging community involvement, supporting individuals to access activities, appointments, hobbies and social opportunities.
- Promoting choice and control, ensuring the people we support have a voice and are actively involved in decisions about their care and lives.
- Supporting individuals safely, following care plans, risk assessments, safeguarding procedures and organisational policies.
- Recognising changes in presentation or behaviour and communicating concerns appropriately to senior staff and other professionals.
- Supporting individuals during periods of distress, using appropriate positive behaviour support and de-escalation techniques.
- Maintaining accurate records, including daily notes, incident reports, care documentation and other relevant records.
- Supporting medication, where appropriately trained and authorised, in line with individual medication plans and company procedures.
- Working as part of a supportive team, communicating effectively with colleagues, families and other professionals.
- Maintaining confidentiality and professional boundaries while treating everyone with dignity and respect.

Essential Requirements
- NVQ Level 3 in Health & Social Care or equivalent.
- Minimum 12 months' experience working within a mental health, learning disability or acquired brain injury setting.
- CPI trained.
- Previous experience supporting individuals with complex needs is highly desirable.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- A professional, person-centred approach to care and support.
Desirable
- Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle.
- Experience working with individuals with complex mental health needs.
- Experience with positive behaviour support and de-escalation.
- Experience working within residential, supported living or community-based services.
