The Role:
A wonderful Primary SEN school in Exeter is looking for a full-time SEN Teaching Assistant to work with children ranging from EYFS to KS2. The school is an autism specialist and prides itself in being an inclusive community celebrating diversity supporting children across a variety of severe and complex needs, including those that are non-verbal and those with Social, Emotional & Mental Health needs.
The role would be a combination of supporting small class sizes of 6 - 9 children and 1:1 work, therefore being flexible and active within the role is key. The school focuses vastly on providing therapy and well-being services to support the individual needs of the child. These involve a sensory and soft play suites, speech and language therapy, occupational therapy, bounce therapy, social programmes and weekly dance lessons!

The school’s hours of this role are 8.30am - 4pm.
The ideal SEN Teaching Assistant should:
- Have experience or passion for working with children with SEN
- Be flexible, proactive and patient
- Be nurturing and caring in your approaches
- Be able to communicate effectively within a team
- Be open to providing personal care
- Have a Background in Education, Care, Psychology or Drama, as these are very transferable.
- Training or experience in non-verbal communication is preferred, but a willingness to learn is essential. For example Makaton, PECS
