Business Support Assistant
Location: Cockermouth (office-based)
Hours: Full-time (37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday)
Overview
We are looking for a proactive, organised and dependable Business Support Assistant to join our team in Cockermouth.
This is a varied, hands-on role providing administrative, logistical and coordination support across the business. You will help ensure our day-to-day operations run smoothly, acting as a key point of contact for office services, travel arrangements, couriers, visitors, meetings and employee events.
The role would suit someone who enjoys variety, takes pride in being organised and providing excellent service and is happy to take ownership of tasks through to completion. You will work with colleagues at all levels of the business and play an important part in creating a professional, efficient and welcoming working environment.
Due to the nature of the role, this is an office-based position and attendance at our Cockermouth office throughout the working week is essential.

Duties
As our Business Support Assistant, your responsibilities will include:
- Manage incoming and outgoing post and support the smooth running of day-to-day office activities.
- Act as the first point of contact for incoming telephone enquiries, providing a professional and friendly service and directing calls appropriately.
- Maintain and update purchasing spreadsheets, ensuring information and administrative records are accurate and up to date.
- Undertake local collections and other external errands as required to support business operations.
- Act as the primary contact for UK courier bookings and small shipments, liaising with courier providers to ensure timely collections and deliveries.
- Support the Finance Officer with arranging and tracking international shipments.
- Coordinate employee travel requests and arrange travel and accommodation as required.
- Work closely with Director Support to coordinate travel arrangements for Directors.
- Monitor and maintain the company vehicle booking system.
- Arrange and manage bookings for Createc House.
- Receive and review visitor requests and coordinate any necessary arrangements or support.
- Ensure meeting rooms are organised, presentable and fully prepared for meetings and visitors.
- Provide a professional and welcoming experience for visitors to the Cockermouth office.
- Work with the Marketing team to support the planning and coordination of employee events.
- Assist with event logistics, bookings, communications and on-site arrangements.
- Provide general administrative and business support to colleagues as required.
- Undertake other reasonable duties appropriate to the role to support wider business needs.
Experience
We are looking for someone who can demonstrate:
- Good organisational skills, with the ability to prioritise and manage a varied workload.
- Good written and verbal communication skills, including a professional and confident telephone manner.
- A good standard of written English, including spelling and grammar.
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to maintain accurate records.
- Confidence using Microsoft 365 applications, including Outlook, Word and Excel.
- The ability to use initiative and work independently when required.
- A dependable and conscientious approach to completing tasks.
- A proactive, positive attitude and willingness to take on new tasks.
- The ability to take ownership of tasks and see them through to completion.
- A friendly, approachable and professional manner when dealing with colleagues, visitors and external contacts.
- Flexibility and a willingness to support colleagues and the wider business.
- A team-focused attitude with a willingness to learn and develop.
- The ability to handle information discreetly and maintain confidentiality.
- GCSE Grade 4/C or above, or equivalent, in English and Maths.
Previous experience in an administrative, business support, office or customer-facing role would be desirable. Experience arranging travel, couriers, meetings or events and maintaining spreadsheets or administrative records would also be beneficial.
A Level 2 or 3 NVQ in Business Administration, or an equivalent qualification, would be advantageous but is not essential.
A full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle are required, as the role involves local collections and other business-related duties.

Pay: £26,551.00-£28,383.00 per year
