Harbour Worker – £25,000
Herring House Trust is a local charity providing accommodation and support for people experiencing homelessness in Great Yarmouth.
We are recruiting five Harbour Workers to join the team at The Harbour, our four-bed supported accommodation service for people moving away from rough sleeping.
For us, good support starts with relationships. It means taking time to get to know someone, listening to what matters to them and understanding how trauma and life experiences can shape the way people experience the world and the services around them.
About the role
This is a practical, relationship-based role providing day-to-day support within The Harbour.
You will:
- Build consistent relationships with people living in The Harbour.
- Provide practical day-to-day support around health, wellbeing, appointments, daily living and future housing.
- Work in a trauma-informed way, taking time to understand individual experiences and circumstances.
- Work alongside HHT colleagues, Link Workers and other services involved in someone’s support.
- Keep clear records and contribute to support planning, safeguarding and the safe running of the service.
You’ll be joining a small team with the opportunity to bring your experience and ideas and contribute to how the service develops.
Who are we looking for?
We’re looking for people who are good at building relationships and understand what trauma-informed support means in practice.
We value people who are curious, thoughtful and able to consider different perspectives, particularly when things haven’t gone as planned.
Formal qualifications are not essential. Relevant experience and transferable skills could have come from homelessness, mental health, social care, substance use services, community work or somewhere else.
Working at HHT
HHT is a small organisation where people work closely together and your experience and ideas are valued.
Reflective practice is part of how we work, giving staff regular space to think about their work, share different perspectives and develop their approach.
We also recognise the importance of having proper time away from this work and have reflected that in the working pattern.
Salary: £25,000 per year
Average 34 hours per week
Working pattern: one 12-hour day shift, followed by one 12-hour night shift, then three days off.
Additional shifts may occasionally need to be covered for holidays and sickness.
