About the role
Shropshire Respite Centre and Shropshire Day Care Centre at Phoenix House is looking for a fun, enthusiastic and creative Activities Coordinator to join our growing team.
This role is about much more than simply filling time. You will be responsible for creating meaningful, enjoyable and person-centred experiences that promote wellbeing, independence, confidence and social inclusion.
Many of our members are living with dementia, so you must be able to adapt activities to reflect each person’s individual abilities, interests, life history and communication needs.
Experience in care, dementia support or activity coordination is desirable; however, the right attitude, personality and willingness to learn are equally important. You must genuinely enjoy bringing fun and laughter into other people’s lives.
Main responsibilities
Your responsibilities will include:
- Planning and delivering a varied programme of meaningful, person-centred activities.
- Supporting group activities and individual one-to-one engagement.
- Adapting activities so that everyone can participate according to their abilities, preferences and support needs.
- Developing activities based on members’ interests, backgrounds, cultures and life histories.
- Organising arts and crafts, music, reminiscence, quizzes, gentle exercise, baking, gardening, themed events and community outings.
- Encouraging choice, independence, social interaction and a sense of purpose.
- Supporting members who are living with dementia using calm, respectful and dementia-friendly approaches.
- Providing transport for members travelling to and from the centre.
- Planning activities safely and completing relevant risk assessments.
- Maintaining accurate records of activities, engagement and outcomes.
- Gathering feedback from members, relatives and colleagues to help develop the service.
- Managing activity resources and ensuring equipment is safe, suitable and well organised.
- Working collaboratively with the wider team to support members’ wellbeing.
- Taking photographs of activities where the appropriate consent has been obtained.
- Helping promote the day centre and sharing positive updates about activities when required.
About you
We are looking for someone who is:
- Fun, energetic, positive and creative.
- Caring, patient and genuinely interested in other people.
- Confident in leading both group and individual activities.
- Able to communicate effectively with people living with dementia.
- Organised and able to plan activities in advance.
- Able to adapt quickly when someone’s needs, mood or abilities change.
- Comfortable using a laptop, mobile phone and basic digital systems.
- Able to work independently while also being part of a supportive team.
- Reliable, professional and committed to providing person-centred support.
Essential requirements
- A full UK driving licence.
- Access to a suitable car, as the role involves transporting members to and from the centre.
- Appropriate motor insurance covering business use and the transportation required by the role.
- A caring, respectful and person-centred approach.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Willingness to complete an enhanced DBS check and provide satisfactory references.
Desirable experience
- Previous experience as an Activities Coordinator or Activities Assistant.
- Experience within adult social care, day opportunities or a residential care setting.
- Experience supporting people who are living with dementia.
- Knowledge of person-centred activity planning.
- A relevant qualification in health and social care, activities, dementia care or a related subject.
Experience is desirable but not essential, as full training and ongoing support will be provided to the right candidate.
What we offer
- Competitive pay of £13.00–£14.50 per hour.
- Consistent Monday-to-Friday working hours.
- No regular evening or weekend shifts.
- Company laptop and mobile phone.
- Full induction and ongoing training.
- Supportive management and a welcoming team.
- The opportunity to develop activities and bring your own ideas to the role.
- A rewarding position in which you can make a genuine difference every day.
