About the role
We are looking for a confident, reliable and safety-focused Traffic Marshallto join our Operations team at our Cassington Waste Transfer Station.
This is an important safety role within a busy operational yard. You will be responsible for helping to maintain the safe and efficient movement of vehicles, monitoring activity within the yard and making sure site and safety rules are followed.
We are looking for someone who is alert, assertive and comfortable giving clear instructions and challenging unsafe behaviour when necessary.
You do need to be confident enough to stop something when it is not safe, reinforce the rules consistently and raise concerns when something does not look right.
Previous Traffic Marshall experience would be beneficial, but attitude, reliability and the ability to take safety seriously are particularly important to us. Training can be provided for the right candidate.
Key Responsibilities:
· Direct and guide vehicles safely around the site using hand signals and two-way radio communication.
· Monitor vehicle, pedestrian and operational activity and maintain awareness of changing yard conditions.
· Consistently maintain and reinforce Site Rules, PPE requirements and safe working practices.
· Confidently and professionally challenge unsafe or non-compliant behaviour.
· Identify and report hazards, near misses and non-conformances.
· Coordinate with drivers, machine operators and site management to maintain safe and efficient traffic movement.
· Visually inspect loads and accurately record waste percentages using an iPad/tablet.
· Follow company Health & Safety, compliance and operational procedures.
· Help maintain a safe, clean and organised working area.
Essential requirements
· Confident and assertive, with the ability to give clear instructions and build positive working relationships while remaining confident enough to challenge unsafe behaviour when necessary.
· Strong safety awareness and attention to detail.
· Reliable, responsible and able to concentrate and be aware of vehicle and site activity throughout the working day.
· Proactive and self-motivated - someone who notices problems and takes appropriate action.
· Clear communication skills, including the ability to communicate effectively over a two-way radio.
· Professional and able to remain calm when dealing with difficult situations.
· Comfortable using basic technology such as tablets/iPads.
· Willing to learn and follow established procedures.
Desirable
· Previous Traffic Marshall experience or experience within waste management, transport, logistics, construction or another operational/safety-critical environment would be advantageous. Training can be provided for the right candidate.
· A Traffic Marshall/Banksman certificate is desirable but not essential.
Work Environment:
· This is a predominantly outdoor role in an operational environment. You must be comfortable working in varying weather conditions, noise and dust, and standing for extended periods. Appropriate PPE will be provided.
· Working hours: Monday to Friday 06.45 to 16.30 2x half breaks, plus every other Saturday in a rota basis from 06.45 to 12.00 1x half break.
Salary: £13.28 per hour
