NBE Catering Equipment Services is looking for a motivated and practical individual to join our team as a Trainee Commercial Catering Engineer.
This is a fantastic opportunity for someone looking to build a long-term career in engineering. No previous catering engineering experience is required – we are looking for the right person with a good attitude, a practical mindset and a genuine willingness to learn.
You will receive hands-on training while working alongside experienced engineers, gradually developing the skills and knowledge needed to service, maintain, diagnose and repair commercial catering equipment.
This is not a classroom-based apprenticeship. You will be out in the field, learning the job in real working environments and gaining valuable practical experience from day one.
What You'll Be Doing
As your experience develops, you will learn how to:
- Service, maintain and repair commercial catering equipment
- Diagnose faults and identify practical solutions
- Work on equipment including commercial ovens, dishwashers, refrigeration and other kitchen equipment
- Use hand tools, testing equipment and technical information safely and correctly
- Carry out planned preventative maintenance
- Assist experienced engineers with installations and more complex repairs
- Complete service paperwork and accurately record work carried out
- Communicate professionally with customers while representing NBE on site
- Work safely and follow company and health & safety procedures
Initially, you will work closely with experienced members of our engineering team. As your skills, knowledge and confidence develop, you will be given greater responsibility and the opportunity to work more independently.
Who We're Looking For
Previous engineering experience is not essential. We are much more interested in finding someone with the right attitude and aptitude.
You should be:
- Practical and comfortable working with your hands
- Interested in engineering, mechanics or how things work
- Keen to learn and develop a skilled trade
- Reliable, punctual and hardworking
- Able to listen, follow instructions and take responsibility
- Confident dealing with customers in a polite and professional manner
- Able to work both independently and as part of a team
- Comfortable working in a busy, field-based environment
Previous experience with tools, mechanics, construction, maintenance, electrical work or another practical trade would be an advantage, but is not required.
A full UK driving licencei is essential

Hours: varied, averaging 11 hours a day including paid travelling
