Finance Manager
Job Summary
We are seeking a hands-on and detail-driven Finance Manager to take ownership of the full finance function of our business. In this pivotal role, you will manage everything from day-to-day bookkeeping through to month-end close, management accounts, cash flow forecasting, payroll, VAT, and year-end audit support. You will be the go-to person for all things financial, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and timely reporting while providing senior management with the insight needed to support strategic decision-making. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced all-round finance professional who thrives on ownership, accuracy, and making a genuine impact on business performance. This role would ideally suit a part-qualified accountant (CIMA or ACCA) actively working towards full qualification.
Duties
Financial Management & Bookkeeping
- Manage the day-to-day bookkeeping and financial transactions of the business
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records in accordance with company policies and accounting standards
- Process financial transactions, ensuring accuracy and completeness
- Maintain the general ledger and ensure all financial data is recorded correctly
Cash Flow Management & Forecasting
- Prepare and maintain weekly cash flow reports and forecasts to support business planning and liquidity management
- Monitor daily cash balances and forecast future cash requirements
- Liaise with senior management to provide cash flow analysis and financial forecasting to support strategic decision-making
Month-End & Financial Reporting
- Lead the month-end close process, including the preparation and posting of journals
- Prepare accurate monthly management accounts within agreed deadlines
- Perform monthly balance sheet reconciliations and investigate any variances
- Reconcile multi-currency bank accounts and ensure foreign currency transactions are accurately recorded
- Complete monthly reconciliations of factoring accounts
- Produce financial reports, P&L and Balance Sheet
Year-End Accounts & Audit
- Prepare year-end accounts and supporting schedules
- Assist external accountants with the preparation of statutory accounts and the annual year-end audit
- Liaise with auditors, providing financial information and supporting documentation as required
- Ensure all year-end financial processes are completed accurately and within agreed timescales
Accounts Payable & Accounts Receivable
- Manage the accounts payable and accounts receivable functions
- Prepare and process supplier payment runs in line with agreed payment terms
- Monitor customer accounts, ensuring timely collection of outstanding debts through effective credit control
- Resolve supplier and customer account queries
VAT & Statutory Compliance
- Prepare and submit monthly VAT returns accurately and within statutory deadlines
- Support year-end audit requirements by providing schedules and documentation as required
Payroll & Pensions
- Process weekly and monthly payroll accurately and on time
- Ensure payroll deductions, statutory payments and submissions are completed correctly
- Prepare and submit pension contribution schedules in accordance with regulatory requirements
Credit Control & Risk Management
- Conduct customer credit checks and risk analysis for new and existing customers
- Monitor customer credit limits and recommend appropriate actions to minimise financial risk
Qualifications
- Experience preparing monthly management accounts and leading month-end processes
- Experience preparing year-end accounts and assisting with external audits
- Experience in cash flow forecasting and working capital management
- Strong knowledge of VAT, payroll, pensions and statutory reporting requirements
- Experience managing accounts payable, accounts receivable and credit control
- Experience with multi-currency transactions, bank reconciliations and factoring accounts
- Proficient in Sage 50, Sage 200 and Sage Payroll
- Excellent analytical, organisational and problem-solving skills
