We are seeking an enthusiastic, motivated, and professional Deputy Course Manager to support the Course Manager in maintaining and developing our course to the highest possible standards.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced greenkeeper looking to progress into a senior leadership role, or for an existing Deputy Head Greenkeeper seeking a new challenge within a prestigious private members' club.
The Role
Working closely with the Course Manager, you will play a key role in the day-to-day management of the greenkeeping team and the maintenance of the golf course. You will help plan and deliver seasonal maintenance programmes, supervise staff when required, and ensure the course is presented to an exceptional standard.
The position is based on a 40-hour working week, with regular weekend work required as part of a rota to ensure the highest standards of course presentation.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist the course Manager in the daily management and organisation of the greenkeeping team.
- Maintain all playing surfaces to the highest possible standard.
- Operate, maintain, and care for a wide range of turf machinery and equipment.
- Assist with irrigation management, course set-up, and seasonal renovation programmes.
- Support the planning and implementation of agronomic practices.
- Ensure all work is carried out safely and in accordance with Health & Safety legislation.
- Lead and motivate the team in the absence of the Head Greenkeeper.
- Contribute ideas and initiatives to continually improve course presentation and performance.
About You
The successful candidate will have:
- A minimum of five years' experience within the golf course management industry.
- A sound understanding of fine turf maintenance and modern greenkeeping practices.
- The ability to demonstrate strong practical greenkeeping skills and attention to detail.
- Experience operating and maintaining a wide range of turf machinery.
- Excellent organisational and communication skills.
- The ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
- A proactive attitude with a strong work ethic and commitment to achieving high standards.
- The confidence to supervise and support colleagues when required.

Desirable Qualifications and Experience
- Level 2 or Level 3 qualification in Sports Turf Management (or equivalent).
- PA1, PA2 and PA6 spraying certificates (desirable).
- Chainsaw certification (desirable).
- First Aid qualification (desirable).
- Experience with irrigation systems.
- A full UK driving licence.
