We are seeking an experienced Multi Skilled Engineer to join a busy food manufacturing operation. This is a predominantly hands-on role, with the majority of your time spent supporting production on the factory floor. You will play a key role in maintaining machinery, reducing downtime, improving equipment reliability, and ensuring production targets are achieved safely and efficiently.
This position is ideal for an engineer with both mechanical and electrical maintenance experience who enjoys working in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
About the Role
- Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and reactive maintenance on production machinery.
- Diagnose and repair mechanical and electrical faults to minimise downtime.
- Prioritise engineering tasks and support the day-to-day maintenance requirements of the site.
- Maintain production, processing and packaging equipment to maximise reliability and performance.
- Support environmental systems, including heating, cooling and ventilation equipment.
- Assist with continuous improvement projects to increase efficiency and reduce waste.
- Ensure machinery operates safely and complies with all relevant legislation.
- Maintain excellent housekeeping and Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) standards.
- Complete maintenance records and engineering documentation accurately.
- Work closely with production teams to minimise disruption and improve plant performance.
- Support the development of preventative maintenance schedules and engineering improvements.
- Assist with engineering risk assessments and safe systems of work.
- Promote a strong health, safety and food safety culture across the site.
- Participate in an on-call rota and adopt a flexible approach to working hours when required.
- Undertake any other engineering duties appropriate to the role.
About the Candidate
The successful candidate will have:
- A recognised qualification in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering.
- Experience working as a Multi Skilled Engineer within a manufacturing environment, ideally food production.
- Strong mechanical and electrical fault-finding skills.
- Experience maintaining automated production or packaging machinery.
- Knowledge of planned preventative maintenance systems.
- Excellent problem-solving and diagnostic abilities.
- A proactive approach with strong organisational skills.
- Good communication skills and the ability to work independently or as part of a team.
- Electrical qualification such as 17th or 18th Edition (or equivalent) would be advantageous.
Desirable Experience
- Food manufacturing experience.
- Food Hygiene qualification.
- IOSH or NEBOSH qualification.
- Experience supporting continuous improvement initiatives.
- Knowledge of engineering compliance within a regulated manufacturing environment.
Working Hours
- 45–50 hours per week.
- Flexible working pattern to meet production requirements.
- Weekend working is required as part of the rota.
- Participation in an on-call rota for engineering support.
