Job Summary
This is a live-in opportunity for a couple: two separate full-time roles, one Sous Chef and one Front of House Supervisor, with a self-contained flat above the restaurant. These are two distinct jobs for two people. We are not looking for one person to cover both.
Applicants must apply as a pair. Each partner takes one role and reports to a different manager.
The two roles
Sous Chef — Full time, 40 hours per week. Reports to the Head Chef.
Front of House Supervisor — Full time, 37 hours per week. Reports to the Restaurant Manager.
Accommodation — Optional self-contained flat above the restaurant, with rent, council tax and electricity deducted from salary. Both roles are also open to candidates who prefer to live out.
Sous Chef responsibilities
- Work alongside the Head Chef to plan and organise kitchen operations, and run the kitchen in their absence
- Supervise the kitchen team and coordinate their work through service
- Oversee preparation, cooking and presentation, holding standards on recipes, portion control and consistency
- Manage stock levels, assist with ordering and goods in, and control waste and food cost
- Enforce food hygiene, health and safety standards in the kitchen
- Contribute ideas to menu development
Sous Chef requirements
- Proven experience as a Sous Chef or in a similar kitchen role
- Strong food preparation and presentation skills
- Ability to lead a kitchen team calmly under pressure
- Flexibility to work evenings, weekends and bank holidays
Front of House Supervisor responsibilities
- Clean, stock and organise the restaurant five mornings a week
- Work four evenings a week, including Fridays and Saturdays
- Lead the waiting team and work alongside our other Supervisors
- Communicate clearly and constantly with the kitchen
- Take bookings by phone and online, and help maximise covers
- Be proactive and spot what needs doing before being asked
- Create a happy, fun working environment for the team and our guests
Front of House Supervisor requirements
- Previous experience in a similar supervisory role in a restaurant or hospitality setting
- A proactive, hands-on approach
- Confidence leading a team through a busy service
- Warmth with guests and colleagues alike
