About the Role
As a Tutor, you'll take responsibility for the learning and personal development of a small group of learners, delivering engaging, individualised education within our outdoor learning environment.
This isn't a traditional classroom teaching role. You'll use creativity, practical activities and project-based learning to adapt education around the individual needs, interests and goals of our young people.
Alongside delivering learning, you'll provide pastoral support, monitor learner progress and work closely with colleagues, families and other professionals to help learners achieve meaningful outcomes.
It's a hands-on and rewarding role that requires adaptability, empathy and resilience, alongside a genuine passion for helping young people who may have experienced challenges within more traditional education settings.
Key Responsibilities
- Teaching and Learning: Deliver and adapt engaging curriculum content through our individualised, SEMH-informed and project-based approach to learning.
- Planning and Differentiation: Create learning opportunities and resources that reflect individual needs, interests, abilities and different learning styles.
- Academic and Pastoral Support: Take responsibility for the academic and pastoral development of your tutor group, building positive and consistent relationships with learners.
- Learner Progress: Assess, monitor and plan learner progress, ensuring learning supports individual EHCP outcomes and wider SEMH development.
- Behaviour and Emotional Support: Contribute to Individual Behaviour Support Plans (IBSPs) and needs-led interventions, using appropriate strategies to help learners regulate, engage and participate.
- Family and Professional Engagement: Build positive relationships with families and work collaboratively with external professionals to support individual learners.
- Crisis Support: Work alongside colleagues to provide appropriate support during challenging situations, maintaining a safe and supportive environment.
- Recording and Reporting: Maintain accurate records of learning, progress and support, contributing to reviews and wider learner documentation.
- Reflective Practice: Engage in supervision, CPD and reflective practice to continually develop your approach and improve outcomes for learners.
- Safeguarding and Wellbeing: Actively promote and safeguard learner welfare, contributing to a strong culture of safeguarding across the school.
