Position: Joiner - Band 6 (Sth) (Facilities Management and Building Services)
Location: Heddon Way, South Shields, NE34 0NT
Start Date: ASAP
Contract Duration: 12+ Months (08:00 – 17:00)
Working Hours: 37 hours per week
Pay Rate: PAYE: £ 16.62 per hour
Job Responsibilities:
- Carry out joinery and carpentry repairs, maintenance, and installation work across council properties and facilities.
- Complete planned and reactive maintenance tasks to a high standard and within agreed timescales.
- Install, repair, and replace doors, windows, frames, fixtures, fittings, and other joinery items.
- Diagnose faults and identify appropriate repair solutions.
- Ensure all work complies with health and safety regulations, building standards, and council procedures.
- Maintain accurate job records, including completed works and materials used.
- Work independently and as part of a wider maintenance team.
- Provide professional and courteous service when working in occupied properties and public buildings.
- Follow safe working practices, including correct use of tools, equipment, and PPE.
- Support general facilities management and building maintenance activities as required.
Person Specification:
- Proven experience working as a Joiner/Carpenter within maintenance, construction, or facilities management environments.
- Relevant joinery qualification or recognised trade experience.
- Valid CSCS Trade Card.
- Knowledge and experience of general building repairs and maintenance.
- Understanding of health and safety requirements within a maintenance environment.
- Asbestos Awareness training.
- Manual Handling training.
- Working at Height training.
- Abrasive Wheels training.
- Full UK driving licence.
- Ability to work independently, manage workload, and meet deadlines.
- Good communication skills and a professional approach when dealing with customers and colleagues.
- Previous experience working within a public sector or housing maintenance environment is desirable.
