What You’ll Be Doing
The Brokerage Subcon Planner is responsible for supporting transport operations by processing transactions, maintaining accurate records, liaising with clients and counterparties, and ensuring compliance with regulatory and company procedures. The role requires excellent attention to detail, strong administrative capabilities, and the ability to work in a fast-paced financial services environment.
Transport Brokerage & Load Planning
- Source suitable hauliers and subcontractors for transport requirements.
- Obtain competitive quotations and negotiate rates where appropriate.
- Match loads with available carriers to maximise efficiency and profitability.
- Support daily transport planning activities.
Carrier & Customer Management
- Build and maintain strong relationships with approved subcontractors and customers.
- Provide updates on shipment status and resolve service issues quickly.
- Coordinate collection and delivery schedules with all stakeholders.
Administration & Compliance
- Maintain accurate records of bookings, rates, PODs, and transport documentation.
- Ensure all subcontractors meet company compliance requirements, including insurance and operator licences.
- Support invoice verification and transport cost control processes.
Operational Support
- Monitor daily movements and proactively manage delivery issues.
- Escalate delays or service failures where necessary.
- Work closely with warehouse, transport, and customer service teams to ensure seamless operations.
About You
Essential
- GCSE English and Maths (Grade 4/C or above).
- Good level of computer literacy.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
- Previous administrative experience.
- Experience working in a fast-paced operational environment.
- Experience managing multiple priorities and deadlines.
- Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
- Strong organisational and planning abilities.
- Good geographical knowledge of the UK.
- Ability to work under pressure and make informed decisions.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to build effective working relationships.
- Competent in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook.
Desirable
- Transport, Logistics or Supply Chain qualification.
- CPC Transport Operations knowledge.
- Training on transport management systems (TMS).
- Experience within a transport, logistics, haulage, warehousing, or freight operation.
- Experience dealing with subcontract hauliers.
- Experience using transport planning or fleet management systems.
- Knowledge of transport legislation and operator compliance.
- Understanding of haulage rates and transport costing.
- Knowledge of KPIs within a logistics environment.
- Familiarity with POD management and customer service processes.
