About the Role
We are looking for two experienced Slitting Line Operators/Setters to join our production team at USP Steels, working on our Dermech slitting line.
This is a hands-on production role responsible for setting up and operating the slitting line to process steel safely, accurately and efficiently. You will ensure material is produced to the correct specifications while maintaining high standards of quality, productivity and health and safety.
We are looking for dependable individuals with a strong understanding of steel processing who are confident working with industrial machinery in a fast-paced production environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Set up and operate the Dermech slitting line safely and efficiently.
- Set tooling, knives, spacers and machine parameters in line with production requirements.
- Read and follow works orders, specifications and production schedules.
- Process steel coil to the required widths, tolerances and customer specifications.
- Carry out dimensional and quality checks throughout production to ensure finished material meets requirements.
- Load and unload coils and processed material using appropriate handling equipment.
- Monitor the line during operation and make adjustments where required to maintain quality and productivity.
- Identify and report defects, machine faults or production issues promptly.
- Complete relevant production records accurately.
- Carry out routine equipment and pre-use safety checks.
- Work closely with production colleagues and supervisors to achieve daily production targets.
- Minimise material waste and support the efficient use of steel throughout the processing operation.
- Maintain a clean, safe and organised working area.
- Follow all company health and safety procedures, including correct PPE and safe material handling practices.
- Carry out other reasonable duties as required to support production operations.
About You
The ideal candidate will:
- Have previous experience operating and/or setting a steel slitting line.
- Have a good understanding of the slitting process, including machine set-up and tooling.
- Have experience working with steel coil or within a steel processing environment.
- Be able to read and work accurately from production orders and specifications.
- Have a strong understanding of tolerances, measurements and quality requirements.
- Be confident carrying out basic machine adjustments and identifying operational issues.
- Have experience using overhead cranes and/or other material handling equipment. Relevant licences or certifications would be beneficial.
- Have a strong understanding of health and safety within a manufacturing environment.
- Be reliable, punctual and able to work effectively as part of a production team.
- Have excellent attention to detail and a strong focus on quality.
