Job Summary
Working for the Engineering Manager, they will be responsible for managing design tasks to ensure the smooth integration of our products in the truck-mounted range of sweepers. The work will generally be of a mechanical/structural metal nature, although there will be some work with hydraulics, pneumatics, plastics and (occasionally) electrics/electronics.
The Lead Design Engineer will be given the freedom to develop the team around them, highlighting training needs and supporting the Engineering Manager with annual budgets, providing input on resources, capital expenditure and project planning (and costs). The prime function is to improve the technological advancement of the product, in line with Group aspirations.
There will be a considerable amount of working in and around the vehicles we manufacture/convert, taking accurate measurements and making design assessments. There may also be the occasional requirement for ‘hands-on’ assembly work during the prototype stage of design and operating the vehicles, as required, during testing will also be necessary.
Responsibilities
· Conceptual design of new products and assemblies
· Arrange the creation of prototype parts and assemblies
· Supporting Sales with new chassis type evaluations
· Assisting the R&D Manager with NPD, as required
· Liaison with internal/external suppliers as part of the design process, as required
· Creation of 3D models and 2D detail drawings (SolidWorks and/or AutoCAD)
· Creation of assembly/production drawings and bills of material
· Creation of hydraulic and pneumatic circuits where required
· Modifications and amendments to legacy data
· Mentoring the team and managing their development, including highlighting training needs
· Ensuring the compliance of Scarab’s product range with relevant legislation and industry standards
· Assisting the Engineering Manager with the creation of the department’s annual budget
· Visiting exhibitions and customer/supplier’s premises, where required. This may involve travelling abroad
· Accompanying prototypes to external test houses, where necessary. This may involve travelling abroad
· Attending meetings to support other departments with respect to technical input
· Working as part of a close-knit team to ensure the future quality of the product range
Skills

· Proficient in the use of SolidWorks and able to produce technical drawings to a high standard. AutoCAD (2D) experience would be an advantage
· Able to use Microsoft Office products
· SAP (or similar ERP system) familiarity would be useful
Pay: £50,000.00-£55,000.00 per year
