SolidCor is on a mission to make volume fire door replacement possible within days — enabling the industry to rapidly achieve compliance and community safety in every building. Born out of the urgent need for change following the Grenfell disaster, we have built the fastest production times in the industry and the widest range of primary-tested fire door configurations. We are growing fast and we are looking for A-players to help us get there.
We are passionate about getting things right and obsessed with quality. Our products are safety-critical — when a fire door fails, the consequences are real. Every shift, every doorset, every decision on the factory floor has to meet the standard.
We are looking for a Production Shift Manager to lead the afternoon shift at our Chesterfield factory. You will be responsible for everything that happens on your shift — output, quality, people, safety, and pace. This is a hands-on leadership role: you will be visible on the floor, setting the standard, holding the team to it, and making sure every shift finishes with the right results.
If you are a natural leader who thrives in a fast-paced manufacturing environment, takes pride in running a tight, high-quality operation, and wants to be part of a business genuinely committed to doing things properly — read on.
-
Lead and manage the afternoon shift production team — setting daily targets, allocating work, and holding colleagues accountable to output and quality standards.
- Maintain a visible, hands-on presence on the factory floor throughout your shift, supporting operators, resolving issues, and keeping production moving.
- Monitor production output in real time — identifying and addressing bottlenecks, shortfalls, or quality issues before they escalate.
- Ensure all products manufactured on your shift meet SolidCor’s quality and compliance standards, carrying out checks and escalating non-conformances appropriately.
- Own H&S on your shift — conducting toolbox talks, ensuring safe working practices are followed, and reporting incidents, near misses, and hazards promptly.
- Lead shift handovers professionally — communicating clearly with the outgoing and incoming shift managers on output, issues, and priorities.
- Support the onboarding and ongoing development of team members, identifying training needs and feeding back to the Plant Director.
- Complete shift reports, output records, and any other required documentation accurately and on time.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives — identifying waste, inefficiency, and quality issues and working with the wider management team to resolve them.
-
An A-player mindset — high standards, extreme ownership and the drive to do things properly, the first time.
- Proven experience in a shift management, team leader, or supervisory role within a manufacturing or production environment.
- A natural leader — able to motivate, direct, and hold a production team to a high standard during a fast-paced shift.
- Strong understanding of production processes, quality control, and H&S requirements in a factory environment.
- Comfortable working the afternoon shift on a full-time basis.
- Excellent communication skills — clear and direct with the team, professional and accurate in reporting upwards.
- Detail-oriented and process-driven, with a genuine commitment to quality and right first-time production.
- Background in joinery, timber, door manufacturing, or a related production discipline (preferable).
- Forklift licence (preferable).
This is a chance to lead your own shift at one of the UK’s fastest-growing fire door manufacturers — with real ownership, a close-knit team around you, and the satisfaction of knowing every doorset your shift produces contributes to the safety of residents across the country. At SolidCor, we ask a lot — and we give a lot back. The hours are real, the standards are high and the work is demanding, but for those who show up, deliver and go the extra mile, the rewards follow. A-players here enjoy a competitive salary, a Personal Development Plan with ongoing training and mentoring, unlimited holiday, a bonus scheme paying up to 50% of annual salary, enhanced maternity and paternity, lunch, snacks and refreshments on us every day (fresh fruit and Takeaway Friday included), a team social budget, cycle to work, an auto-enrolment pension, two major company events a year and our Reward and Recognition scheme — including European mini-breaks for those who go above and beyond. It is a collaborative, high-energy environment focused on doing things the right way — and none of it is a perk for showing up; it’s what we share with the people pulling the business forward.
