Kitchen Assistant – The Ferns Care Home, Shropshire
Job Summary
The Ferns Care Home is seeking a reliable and hardworking Kitchen Assistant to support the kitchen team in maintaining a clean, safe, and organised kitchen environment. The successful candidate will assist with the smooth day-to-day running of the kitchen, helping to ensure that meals are prepared and served efficiently for our residents. This role offers a good opportunity for someone looking to gain experience within a care home catering environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Wash, clean and sanitise dishes, utensils, pots, pans and kitchen equipment in line with hygiene standards.
- Assist the kitchen team with basic food preparation tasks such as peeling, chopping and preparing ingredients.
- Support the team during busy service periods to ensure meals are delivered to residents on time.
- Maintain the cleanliness of kitchen work surfaces, floors and storage areas throughout the shift.
- Ensure waste is disposed of correctly and recycling procedures are followed.
- Restock kitchen supplies and maintain organised storage areas.
- Follow all health, safety and food hygiene procedures to maintain a safe working environment.
Requirements
- Previous experience in a kitchen, catering or hospitality environment would be beneficial but is not essential, as full training will be provided.
- A basic understanding of food preparation and kitchen practices is desirable.
- Good organisational skills and the ability to work efficiently in a busy environment.
- A positive, reliable and team-focused approach to work.
- Good communication skills and willingness to assist colleagues where required.
- Flexibility to work shifts as required.
