About The Barn Theatre
The Barn Theatre opened its doors in 2018 as a producing house theatre.

The Box Office Sales Manager will be a key ambassador for The Barn Theatre, the welcoming face of the theatre responsible for proactively maximising attendance and income, while delivering an outstanding customer experience from first contact through to final curtain.
The role primarily leads on the delivery of income generation via ticket sales, consistent membership sales and lead generation for group sales and fundraising, while overseeing all Box Office and Front of House operations.
Key Responsibilities
Box Office Management
- Oversee the day-to-day operation of the Box Office and Front of House, ensuring excellent customer service at all times
- Designing initiatives and training staff to maximise sales objectives via pro-active and friendly visitor engagement
- Manage and drive ticket sales and referrals across all platforms (online, phone and in-person)
- Maintain accurate ticketing, seating plans and customer records
- Monitor sales, capacity and performance data, producing reports and insights to support programming and marketing decisions, working closely with the Head of Marketing to identify opportunities and threats
- Handle customer enquiries, exchanges, refunds and complaints sensitively and efficiently
- Work closely with the Marketing team on campaigns, promotions and pricing strategies
- Represent the theatre and lead on pop up Box Office stands at occasional external events
Memberships
- Lead on the selling, growth and management of The Barn Theatre’s Membership scheme
- Lead on the continued promotion of memberships by working closely with Marketing on campaigns, as well as identifying and contacting potential leads in the existing customer base
- Ensure members receive their benefits accurately and on time, including priority booking, communications and events where applicable – be the membership champion in the business
- Maintain accurate membership records and data, supporting reporting and analysis of income and engagement
- Build strong relationships with members, developing a customer culture of loyalty, advocacy and long-term support for the theatre as a charity
- Identify and refer potential Patrons to the Relationship Manager
Group Sales
- Responsibility for proactively generating and delivering group bookings from schools, predominantly for the Christmas show but also for all other appropriate shows in a year
- Work with the Head of Commercial to generate leads and develop group sales opportunities, including community groups, corporate bookings and social groups
- Support the administration of group bookings via the Box Office team
- Coordinate group visits, ensuring a smooth and positive experience from enquiry to attendance
- Track and report on group sales performance and audience development impact
Front of House Management
- Lead, manage and support the Front of House team, including volunteers
- Recruit, train and schedule Front of House staff and volunteers
- Ensure a welcoming, inclusive and safe environment for all audiences
- Oversee Front of House operations during performances and events, including pre-show, interval and post-show activity
- Ensure compliance with health & safety, safeguarding, accessibility and licensing requirements
- Act as Duty Manager when required, responding calmly and effectively to any issues
Collaboration & Administration
- Work closely with Marketing, Programming, Production and Finance teams to support the theatre’s wider objectives
- Contribute to audience development, access initiatives and community engagement activity
- Support fundraising and charitable objectives where appropriate
- Maintain systems, procedures and documentation for Box Office and Front of House operations
Person Specification
Essential
- Motivated self-starter driven to make an impact on sales and take the initiative
- Proven experience in a sales environment, communicating with customers and generating leads
- Excellent customer service and communication skills
- Strong organisational skills with attention to detail
- Confident people manager with the ability to motivate and lead teams
- Comfortable working with sales systems and data
- Ability to work evenings and weekends on a rota basis
Desirable
- Proven experience in Box Office, Front of House or customer-facing management (ideally within theatre, arts or hospitality)
- Knowledge of theatre operations and live performance environments
- Experience working in a charity or not-for-profit organisation
- Passion for theatre, the arts and community engagement

Pay: £27,000.00-£30,000.00 per year
