We are a busy Builders Merchants based in Rochester, Kent. We supply a huge range of building and timber materials.
Payless Builders Merchant is looking for an experienced and reliable Route Planner / Relief Driver to join our team in Rochester.
This is a varied role combining route planning and logistics coordination with hands-on driving duties. You will be responsible for helping to plan efficient delivery routes while also providing cover for our delivery drivers when required.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and organise daily delivery routes to ensure efficient and timely deliveries.
- Coordinate delivery schedules and make the best use of available vehicles and drivers.
- Liaise with drivers, customers and the wider branch team to resolve delivery issues.
- Monitor routes throughout the day and make adjustments where necessary.
- Provide relief driving cover during holidays, sickness and busy periods.
- Carry out deliveries safely and professionally, representing Payless Builders Merchant at customer sites.
- Ensure all relevant delivery, vehicle and driver requirements are followed.
- Maintain a high standard of customer service at all times.
- Plan vehicle PMI's, weekly tacho downloads, defect reporting etc.
The ideal candidate will have the following:
- Clean HGV Class 2 driving license with at least 1 years experience
- HIAB/Crane Brick Grab ticket with at least 1 years experience
- Digi Tacho Card and familiarity with Driver Hours Regulations
- Up to date CPC qualification
About You
We are looking for someone who is organised, calm under pressure and able to manage changing priorities. You should have good geographical knowledge, strong communication skills and a practical approach to solving problems.
Previous experience in route planning, transport coordination, logistics or delivery driving would be highly advantageous.
A relevant HGV driving licence and appropriate driver qualifications will be required for the relief driving element of the role.

- £40,706 per annum

Monday to Friday: 07:00 to 17:15
Alternate Saturdays: 07:00 to 12:30
