Matchday Community Engagement Worker
£24,454.04 pro rata | £12,227.02 actual salary | 18.5 hours per week | Fixed term until 31 August 2027
Based at Tigers Trust Arena and MKM Stadium, with some work across Hull and East Yorkshire
Football brings people together. We want to use that connection to make it easier for people to talk about their mental health and get support when they need it.
We’re looking for a Matchday Community Engagement Worker to join Hull and East Yorkshire Mind as part of Tigers United Together, working alongside Tigers Trust and Hull City to provide mental health support and engagement within the football community.
About the role
A big part of this role will take place on Hull City home matchdays, where you’ll provide a friendly, visible and approachable presence for both home and away supporters.
You’ll help deliver the Mental Health Safe Space at the MKM Stadium, giving supporters somewhere safe and non-judgemental to talk. You’ll listen, provide low-level emotional support, offer practical information and advice, and help people find the right local or national support.
But this role isn’t just about waiting for someone to ask for help.
You’ll be out talking to supporters, building relationships, starting conversations about mental health and suicide prevention, challenging stigma and reaching people who might not normally access traditional mental health services.
You’ll also work closely with Tigers Trust, Hull City staff, safeguarding teams and community partners to make sure people receive the right support when they need it.
What we’re looking for
- Someone approachable, compassionate and confident talking to people from all walks of life
- A good understanding of mental health and the issues that can affect people’s wellbeing
- The resilience to remain calm and supportive when conversations become difficult or emotionally charged
- Experience of working with the public in an information, guidance, community or outreach setting
- Confidence recognising when someone needs additional or urgent support and escalating concerns appropriately
- An understanding of some of the barriers that can prevent people, particularly men, from seeking mental health support
- A proactive attitude – someone who is comfortable starting conversations rather than waiting for people to come to them
- A full driving licence and access to a vehicle for work purposes
Working hours
This is an 18.5-hour-per-week role, fixed term until 31 August 2027.
Flexibility is essential. You’ll be required to work Hull City home matchdays, including evenings, weekends and Bank Holidays where fixtures require, alongside agreed non-matchday hours.
