Stair Estates is seeking experienced and enthusiastic Gardeners to join our dedicated team at the renowned Castle Kennedy, Lochinch Gardens and wider Stair Estates.
This is an excellent opportunity for a qualified or highly experienced gardener with a passion for plants, historic gardens and maintaining high horticultural standards.
The Role
Working alongside the Head Gardener, you will help maintain the gardens and wider estate, including trees, shrubs, herbaceous and annual borders, hedges and lawns.
Key duties include:
· General garden maintenance, planting, propagation, pruning, weeding, feeding and watering
· Pruning trees, shrubs and climbers, and maintaining hedges
· Caring for specialist garden areas
· Operating and maintaining horticultural machinery, including mowers, brush cutters, rotavators and tractors
· Assisting with garden infrastructure and wider estate projects
· Supporting trainees and volunteers
· Providing a friendly and professional point of contact for visitors
· Participating in weekend greenhouse watering and checking rotas when required
· About You
· We are looking for someone who is:
· Experienced in professional gardening or horticulture, ideally with relevant qualifications such as RHS Level 3 or 4, or equivalent
· Knowledgeable and passionate about plants and garden cultivation
· Experienced in the safe and effective use of horticultural machinery
· Positive, proactive, reliable and highly motivated
· Able to work effectively both independently and as part of a team
· Physically fit and comfortable with the demands of the role
· Committed to maintaining high standards and excellent attention to detail
Experience of working in historic gardens, public parks, forestry/silviculture or with rhododendrons would be advantageous.
Relevant NPTC qualifications, including chainsaw, brushcutter and pesticide certificates (PA1/PA6), are preferred, although training may be provided for the right candidate.
Hours & Benefits
· Full time, Monday to Friday, 8.00am–4.30pm
· Additional weekend hours/rotas required at certain times of year
· Salary dependent on experience and qualifications
