Sherborne Schools Group is seeking a Gardener to play a key role in maintaining and developing the school’s gardens and outdoor spaces, ensuring they are presented to a consistently high standard throughout the year. Based primarily at Sherborne Girls School, this is a varied, hands-on position where no two days are quite the same. The successful candidate will be involved in all aspects of garden maintenance, seasonal planting, and the upkeep of lawns, borders and wider landscape areas, helping to create an environment that reflects the quality and character of the school.
In addition to supporting the day-to-day appearance of Sherborne Girls, the role also offers the opportunity to contribute to the wider Sherborne Schools Group, with occasional work across other sites as required. Working as part of a supportive and experienced grounds team, you will play an important part in ensuring the school grounds are welcoming for pupils, staff and visitors, as well as supporting the preparation of outdoor areas for school events and activities.

· Under the direction of the Head Gardener to take responsibility for the upkeep and maintenance of the garden landscape of the school.
· Carry out new planting schemes in accordance with the school landscape plan. · Repair damaged areas of lawn.
· Maintain beds and borders in accordance with the school's standards, replacing plants and shrubs where required.
· Maintain hedges around the school site where they are within the scope of own experience, equipment, and training.
· Maintain hard surfaces such as pea shingle, roads, and pavements by raking, removing litter and controlling weeds.
· Maintain lawn areas by mowing, strimming, aerating, scarifying, top-dressing, weed and moss killing and fertilising as required.
· Assist colleagues in a willing and positive manner
· Attend relevant training sessions as required.
· Maintain levels of Health & Safety in accordance with current legislation and policies.
· Maintain good, flexible working relationships with all staff.
· Promoting and safeguarding the welfare of children and young persons for whom you are responsible and with whom you come into contact.
· To occasionally support School events as a member of the facilities team.
· To assist the facilities team with projects, events and work as required. · Any other task that could be reasonably expected.
· Must be available for occasional Saturday work
Pay: £26,520.00 per year
