What skills and experience we're looking for
Every one of our academies needs someone who can keep the building open, safe and working. This new Trust-wide role is for the person who steps in wherever that is hardest.
You will move around our academies in Wakefield, Kirklees and Barnsley, covering caretaking absence, picking up repairs and small works, and helping our site teams stay on top of the daily checks that keep a school running. One week you may be opening and locking up a primary in Wakefield, the next decorating a classroom in Barnsley or clearing a backlog of jobs at a site that is in need.
We are looking for someone who has:
- Practical caretaking, site or building maintenance experience, and the hands on skills to turn their hand to more than one trade. Basic joinery, minor plumbing, decorating, fixings, locks, drainage and grounds work are all part of the week.
- A full UK driving licence and daily use of your own vehicle, because you will be travelling between academies, often more than once in a day.
- Sound health and safety awareness, including risk assessment, COSHH, working at height, manual handling and lone working, and the judgement to know when a job needs a specialist rather than a go.
- The ability to walk onto an unfamiliar site, work out what needs doing and get on with it without a long handover.
- Reliability and discretion. You will hold keys, alarm codes and out of hours access to our buildings.
- Confidence with a phone or tablet for job records, timesheets and compliance checks.
- Flexibility over working hours, including early starts, late finishes and the occasional split shift, so that the site you are covering opens and closes on time.
Experience in a school or similar setting, a trade qualification, and current asbestos awareness, legionella awareness or IOSH certification are all welcome, but we will train the right person. What matters most is practical ability, dependability and a genuine willingness to help our academies.

What the school offers its staff
Enhance Academy Trust is a Church of England multi-academy trust of sixteen primary academies and a post 16 creative and performing arts free school, across Wakefield, Kirklees and Barnsley. We work closely with our academies while allowing each of them to keep its own character and serve its own community.

The post holder will work across all academies within the Trust and will be expected to travel between sites.
The successful candidate will be required to undergo an enhanced DBS check including a check of the children's barred list, and must be eligible to work in the UK. Visas cannot be sponsored.
