The Leys is a small, friendly residential care home in Alvechurch, providing care for up to 18 residents.
We are looking for a reliable and experienced Bank Cook to provide occasional cover when our permanent kitchen staff are absent due to sickness or annual leave. This is not a regular contracted-hours position; shifts will be offered depending on the needs of the home.
The successful applicant will prepare nutritious, appealing, home-cooked meals while accommodating residents’ dietary requirements, allergies, preferences and individual care needs.
Main duties
- Prepare and cook nutritious meals in accordance with the home’s menus.
- Cater for residents with allergies, special diets, modified-texture requirements and individual preferences.
- Follow food safety, infection control and kitchen hygiene procedures.
- Ensure meals are served safely and on time.
- Maintain a clean, organised and safe kitchen environment.
- Complete relevant food safety records, including temperature checks.
- Monitor food stocks and report shortages to management.
- Work independently and communicate effectively with care staff and management.
Requirements
- Previous experience working as a cook, preferably within a care home, healthcare or similar setting.
- Good knowledge of food hygiene and food safety requirements.
- An understanding of allergens, special diets and modified-texture meals would be beneficial.
- Ability to work independently, organise tasks and manage time effectively.
- Reliable, flexible and able to provide cover, sometimes at short notice.
- Willingness to work weekends where required.
- A full UK driving licence and access to your own transport are essential, as there is no suitable public transport to the home.
- An enhanced DBS check and satisfactory references will be required.
This position would suit an experienced cook looking for occasional, flexible work within a friendly and supportive care home.
Pay: £13.75 per hour
