Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and passionate Gardener and General Maintenance to join our team at two of our care homes in the North Glasgow area. The ideal candidate will be responsible for maintaining and enhancing outdoor green spaces, ensuring they are healthy, attractive, and well-kept. This role offers an opportunity to work outdoors in a dynamic environment, applying horticultural knowledge and gardening skills to create beautiful landscapes. During the winter months there would be requirement for more focus on general maintenance such as assisting with painting and decorating. The successful applicant will have experience with various gardening techniques and tools, demonstrating a keen eye for detail and a commitment to quality.
Responsibilities
- Planting, pruning, watering, and fertilising plants to promote healthy growth
- Using hand tools such as shears, spades, and rakes for garden maintenance
- Operating power tools including lawnmowers, hedge trimmers, and leaf blowers safely and efficiently
- Managing landscape maintenance tasks such as aeration, mulching, and weed control
- Monitoring plant health and identifying pests or diseases for prompt treatment
- Assisting with seasonal planting schemes and garden redesigns as required
- Ensuring the cleanliness of work areas by removing debris and maintaining equipment in good condition
- Collaborating with team members to complete projects within specified timeframes
- Ad Hoc painting and decorating and other general maintenance tasks (mostly winter months)
Experience
- Proven growing experience in horticulture or gardening roles
- Familiarity with landscape maintenance practices and horticultural principles
- Experience working with various hand tools and power tools used in gardening tasks
- Knowledge of irrigation systems installation and upkeep is desirable
- Previous experience in garden design or landscape architecture is a plus
- A genuine interest in gardening, horticulture, and sustainable landscape practices
- Full Drivers Licence
