Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced and proactive Maintenance Supervisor to oversee the maintenance operations within our facility. The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership skills, technical expertise, and the ability to manage a team effectively. This role involves supervising maintenance activities, ensuring equipment reliability, and implementing preventative maintenance programmes to optimise operational efficiency.
Responsibilities
Maintaining the Building and Equipment
- Carry out routine checks on all systems within the home on a weekly, monthly, and annual basis, while ensuring that all external checks and inspections—such as LOLER testing—are conducted within the agreed timeframes as per regulatory and contractual requirements.
- Monitor and respond promptly to fire alarm calls, boiler operations, and lift systems to ensure immediate resolution of any issues and maintain operational safety at all times.
- Make effective and efficient use of all available resources during any maintenance or repair activities, optimising costs and minimising disruption to daily operations.
- Conduct banking tasks as required and handle the purchase of small items necessary for the home’s day-to-day functioning, ensuring accurate record-keeping and adherence to budgetary guidelines.
- Maintain the building, grounds, and all equipment to the highest standards, ensuring the safety of residents, staff, and visitors at all times. This includes carrying out decorations and repairs, performing minor plumbing works, and maintaining garden areas in a tidy and safe condition.
- Maintain good communication and positive working relationships with other teams, colleagues, and departments within the home to foster a collaborative environment.
- Maintain full awareness of the Home’s policies and procedures, with particular emphasis on the Fire Policy, ensuring compliance in all actions and decisions.
- Participate actively in training and development opportunities, both as an individual and as part of the wider team, to continuously improve skills and knowledge relevant to the role.
- Get involved in the induction process for new staff by providing training on the building layout, fire policies, and procedures, helping them to become familiar with safety protocols from day one.
- Maintain client and business confidentiality at all times, handling all sensitive information with the utmost discretion and in accordance with data protection regulations.
- Control the ordering of stock, accept deliveries, and check them thoroughly upon receipt to verify accuracy, quality, and compliance with orders.
- Maintain an ongoing awareness of all Health and Safety requirements applicable to the role and the home, proactively identifying and addressing potential risks.
- Observe and maintain high levels of communication within staff teams, with individual colleagues, and with residents, ensuring clear, respectful, and effective information sharing.
- Maintain client and business confidentiality at all times, reinforcing this as a core principle of professional conduct.
- Carry out any additional duties as reasonably requested by management to support the smooth operation of the home.
- Undertake any additional training and development programmes that the Home may consider appropriate to enhance your contribution to the work at this home and to support your professional growth.
- Review the job description for your post on a regular basis and agree to any necessary changes in consultation with your line manager to ensure it remains relevant to evolving operational needs.
Experience
- Proven supervisory or managerial experience in a maintenance environment within manufacturing or industrial settings.
- Strong knowledge of mechanical systems, electrical systems, and PLC programming.
- Experience reading schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical manuals.
- Demonstrated project management skills with the ability to coordinate multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Leadership qualities with excellent organisational skills and the ability to motivate a team.
- Familiarity with health and safety standards relevant to industrial maintenance.
- Fluency in English is essential for effective communication within the team and documentation purposes.
