Senior Residential Care Worker – Make a Difference at Zen Care
Location: Wigan WN3
Salary: £15.50 Per Hour £60 Per Sleep
Hours: 160 per month (including 10 X 24 hr sleep-in shifts)

Role Overview
We are seeking a Senior Residential Care Worker to play a key role in supporting and mentoring young people in our care. This role involves providing emotional and practical support, ensuring a structured, therapeutic environment where young people feel safe, valued, and empowered. You will also take on leadership responsibilities, supervising a team of care workers and ensuring the highest standards of care are consistently upheld.
Key Responsibilities
Supporting Young People
- Provide consistent, trauma-informed care to young people with complex emotional and behavioural needs.
- Build positive, trusting relationships to support young people’s emotional development and resilience.
- Implement and follow individual care plans, behaviour management strategies, and risk assessments.
- Promote independence by encouraging young people to engage in education, hobbies, and life skills.
- Assist with daily routines, including personal care, household tasks, and social activities.
Safeguarding & Welfare
- Safeguard and promote the welfare of all young people in line with regulatory requirements.
- Act as a role model, supporting children through challenges and de-escalating situations where necessary.
- Work closely with external professionals, such as social workers, therapists, and education providers.
- Document accurately, ensuring all incidents and key events are recorded appropriately.
Leadership & Team Support
- Mentor and supervise Residential Care Workers, ensuring high-quality, person-centred care is provided.
- Support the management team in delivering training, guidance, and team development.
- Lead shifts effectively, ensuring the home remains safe, well-structured, and compliant with regulatory standards.
- Contribute to team meetings, care planning, and reflective practice to continuously improve care.

What We’re Looking For
- Experience working with children and young people, preferably in a residential EBD setting.
- Strong safeguarding knowledge and a commitment to child welfare.
- The ability to manage challenging situations with a calm, trauma-informed approach.
- A team player with leadership skills and a willingness to mentor and support others.
- Flexibility to work shifts, including evenings, weekends, and sleep-ins.
- A Level 3 qualification in Residential Childcare
