Role Overview:
We are seeking an experienced Health and Safety Consultant with a strong background in fire safety compliance. Reporting directly to the Managing Director, the successful candidate will manage their own portfolio of clients and provide professional, proportionate and practical advice across general workplace health and safety, fire safety and water hygiene. The role will combine consultancy, site inspections, risk assessments, report preparation, client meetings and ongoing compliance support. The consultant will be expected to build trusted relationships with clients while maintaining Envirosafe’s high standards of technical accuracy, professionalism and customer service.
Key Responsibilities Health and Safety Consultancy:
- Act as a competent health and safety adviser to an allocated portfolio of clients.
- Provide clear and practical advice in accordance with current UK health and safety legislation and recognised industry guidance.
- Undertake general workplace health and safety audits, inspections and compliance reviews.
- Develop, review and update health and safety policies, procedures, risk assessments and safe systems of work.
- Assist clients with accident and incident investigations, including root-cause analysis and recommendations for corrective action.
- Support clients in responding to enforcement bodies, insurers, auditors and other relevant stakeholders.
- Monitor changes to legislation and guidance and communicate relevant developments to clients.
- Support clients with the implementation and ongoing management of effective health and safety management systems.
- Deliver health and safety briefings, toolbox talks and training where required.
Fire Safety:
- Undertake suitable and sufficient fire risk assessments across a range of commercial, residential, healthcare, education and industrial premises.
- Review existing fire risk assessments and advise clients regarding necessary improvements and remedial actions.
- Assess fire precautions, including means of escape, fire detection and warning systems, emergency lighting, fire doors, compartmentation, signage and firefighting equipment.
- Prepare clear, prioritised and professionally presented fire risk assessment reports.
- Provide ongoing fire safety advice to clients, responsible persons and facilities-management teams.
- Assist clients in developing fire safety policies, emergency procedures, evacuation plans and fire logbooks.
- Review remedial evidence and provide appropriate technical guidance to support the closure of identified actions.
- Liaise with fire engineers, contractors, enforcing authorities and other specialists when required.
- Support the development and delivery of fire safety training.
Client and Business Responsibilities:
- Build and maintain strong, professional relationships with clients.
- Manage allocated work efficiently and ensure reports are completed accurately and within agreed timescales.
- Maintain comprehensive records of client visits, advice, recommendations and follow-up actions.
- Identify opportunities to provide additional support and services where these would add genuine value for the client.
- Contribute to the development of Envirosafe’s consultancy services, templates and technical standards.
- Support the CEO with business development, client mobilisation and service-improvement initiatives.
- Represent Envirosafe professionally at client meetings, networking events and industry forums.
- Work collaboratively with colleagues and external specialists to deliver a consistent and high-quality service.
- Maintain confidentiality and comply with all company quality, information-security and data-protection requirements.
Essential Experience and Qualifications:
The successful candidate should have:
- A recognised occupational health and safety qualification, such as the NEBOSH General Certificate or equivalent.
- Demonstrable experience of providing professional health and safety advice within a consultancy, facilities-management or multi-site environment.
- Relevant training, qualifications and practical experience in undertaking fire risk assessments.
- A good working knowledge of UK health and safety, fire safety and water hygiene legislation.
- A sound understanding of the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 and associated fire safety requirements.
- A sound understanding of ACOP L8, HSG274 and recognised water hygiene control measures.
- Experience of producing clear, technically accurate and proportionate risk assessment reports.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- The confidence to advise clients, challenge unsafe practices and explain technical requirements clearly.
- Strong organisational and time-management skills.
- The ability to manage a varied workload and work independently.
- Good IT skills, including competence in Microsoft Office and electronic reporting systems.
- A full UK driving licence and the ability to travel to client sites.
Desirable Experience and Qualifications:
The following would be advantageous:
- NEBOSH Fire Safety Certificate or an equivalent recognised fire safety qualification.
- Membership of IOSH, IFE, IIRSM, the Fire Protection Association or another relevant professional body.
- Fire door inspection or passive fire protection knowledge.
- Experience of preparing fire strategies, evacuation plans or emergency procedures.
- City & Guilds, Water Management Society or equivalent Legionella and water hygiene qualifications.
- Experience of producing water-system schematic drawings and written schemes of control.
- Experience within healthcare, residential property, education, commercial property or facilities management.
- Experience of delivering training and professional presentations.
- Experience of management systems, statutory compliance auditing or ISO standards.
- Evidence of relevant continuing professional development.

Salary and Development:
The starting salary for this position is £40,000 per annum.
Salary will be reviewed annually and may be increased in line with individual performance, achievement of agreed objectives, professional development and the employee’s overall contribution to the continued success of Envirosafe Chartered Consultants Limited.
The successful candidate will have the opportunity to develop their role as the business grows, with support for appropriate continuing professional development and additional technical qualifications.
Pay: £40,000.00-£45,000.00 per year
