Housekeeper – Part Time
Location: Burgh Island, Devon
Role: Housekeeper
Reporting to: Head Housekeeper / Executive Head Housekeeper
Salary: £13.93 per hour
Contract: Part-time, 16–24 hours per week, with flexibility to increase hours during peak periods
At Burgh Island Hotel, our beautifully restored Art Deco landmark offers a unique and luxurious escape like no other. Set on its own tidal island off the Devon coast, we are proud to deliver a guest experience steeped in charm, style and meticulous attention to detail.
We are now looking for a dedicated and detail-focused Housekeeper to join our team on a part-time basis and help us maintain the exceptional standards our guests expect.
This could be a great opportunity for someone looking for a part-time role with regular hours, while having the flexibility to work additional hours during our busier periods.
What You’ll Do
As part of our Housekeeping team, you will:
- Service and clean guest bedrooms to the high standards expected at Burgh Island.
- Carry out evening turndown service, helping to create a luxurious night-time environment for our guests.
- Ensure bathrooms, bedrooms and guest areas are beautifully presented, paying close attention to the little details that make a difference.
- Respond promptly and professionally to guest requests for additional items or amenities.
- Help ensure our public areas remain immaculate and welcoming throughout the day.
- Assist with deep cleans, linen handling and back-of-house cleanliness.
- Identify and report any maintenance issues promptly so they can be addressed and our high standards and guest experience are maintained.
- Use, handle and store authorised cleaning products and chemicals safely and appropriately, in accordance with your training and Company procedures.
- Carry out all duties with discretion, security awareness and pride in your work.
- Always greet guests with a warm, professional and welcoming presence.
- Work collaboratively with your colleagues to ensure the department runs smoothly and daily priorities are achieved.
What We’re Looking For
Previous housekeeping or cleaning experience would be an advantage, particularly within hospitality, but just as important to us is finding someone with the right attitude and pride in what they do.
You will ideally:
- Have a great eye for detail and genuinely care about doing a job well.
- Take pride in creating beautifully clean and presented spaces.
- Be reliable, punctual and comfortable working as part of a busy team.
- Be able to work efficiently while maintaining consistently high standards.
- Be willing to learn our standards, procedures and ways of working.
- Have a positive and professional approach when interacting with guests and colleagues.
- Be comfortable with the physical nature of a housekeeping role.
Working Hours & Flexibility
- Part-time contract of 16–24 hours per week, worked on a rota basis.
- There may be opportunities to increase your hours during our busier peak periods, subject to business requirements and your availability.
- Working patterns will include a mixture of daytime, evening and weekend shifts, so flexibility across these periods is important.
- Bank holiday working may also form part of the rota.
Important to Know
This is a live-out position and staff accommodation is not available for this role.
Due to our unique and remote tidal island location, applicants will need to be able to reliably travel to and from Burgh Island for their scheduled shifts, including evenings and weekends.
You must have the right to work in the UK – we are not able to offer visa sponsorship for this role at this time.
Why Join Us?
